Learn specifics about the financial aid practices of the schools on your students' personal list of prospective colleges. The first meeting is for parents only and will focus on conventional wisdom and best practices around financing a college education. Students may come for the second meeting and it will focus on how colleges make decisions around financial aid and how to find the best options for your family.
Teaching (and research) is Michael's profession. He has been a professor for 15 years: 6 at the University of Minnesota (Carlson School of Management) and 9 at St. Thomas (Opus College of Business). He has personally experienced all that he proposes in his class, having successfully put two kids through college with at least a 50% discount off the "list" price of tuition, room and board -- all without student loans. Moreover, he is about to send his third child to college and will therefore be going through the process discussed in the class this fall. Given his experience as a parent and a college employee who has been involved in admissions, Michael has a unique view of how the financial aid process works from both sides.
