    Advanced Sewing and Fashion Design (Sanford)

    This class is for our advanced sewers who have taken sewing 1. Students will further their understanding of following and creating patterns, get into more complex projects with quilting and clothing fabrication and have open studio time to work on projects they desire. Ms. Michelle will teach this class again and work with students to continue their love of making and sewing!   • Banned Book Club (Sanford)

    Ms. Olsen and a partnership with Hennepin County Library are excited to bring you Banned Book Club. Book bans have been sweeping the nation and what all of these book have in common according to the National Education Association is this: They reflect the diverse experiences of students of all races, of all abilities, of all religions. They open windows in students’ minds, so that we can see—and celebrate—all of us. We will read books that have been banned in other states library's and public schools. Between July 2021 and June 2022, more than 2,500 book bans were enacted in 138 districts in 32 states, resulting in the removal of more than 1,600 titles from school libraries and classrooms that serve roughly 4 million students, according to a report released this week by PEN America. Lets celebrate the freedom to read!

    Chess Club & Games of Strategy (Sanford)

    Chess Club will continue this spring twice a week on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Students are welcome to come and play other exciting table top games that are provided. Magic and Dungeons and Dragon's are also welcome and we have a small group that plays together who are happy to welcome others. Come and sharpen your skills in chess, Magic, D&D and other games of strategy or relax, play and make new friends.

  • Girls, Inc (Sanford)

    Girls, Inc is a YWCA program inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold! Our evidence-based programming is delivered by trained professionals who focus on the development of the whole girl, supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. Here, girls learn to value their whole selves, discover and develop their inherent strengths, and receive the support they need to navigate the challenges they face. Girls, Inc students will do fun projects like candle making, DIY facemasks, DIY lip balm, art projects and make snacks!     Hawks Student News (Sanford)

    Calling all writers, editors and photojournalists! Hawks Student News is looking for you. Join this group once a week to work on publishing Hawks Student News. Students will work with an Instructor to make a school newsletter with topics and news that you decide and publish to the school community. Students will learn design and layout, work on writing captivating articles and covering school community topics that are important to them and get the word out!     Ms. Gutzmann will lead K Club. Join a group of other K Pop fanatics! We listen to K-pop (Korean pop), watch K-dramas, do crafts and learn dances. Class meets in the Auditorium for movies and dramas and uses the stage to present and dance! If you love K Culture this is the group for you!     Lego Masters (Sanford)

    Ms. Nies will be leading Lego club again this year at Sanford. Work on Lego challenges and build critical thinking and engineering skills! Students will participate in challenges and classroom competitions.
  • Open ArtStudio (Sanford)

    Arts and Crafts studio is for students who want to have a laid back setting where they have time to explore multiple mediums. Students will have the freedom to explore illustration, clay, melting beads, friendship bracelets, painting, drawing, paper mache and more. Students can use this as a studio time to work on projects or can join in guided arts and crafts.     Mr. Josh will be running Open Gym and Basketball every Thursday afternoon! Keep your skills up that you've been working on this season or come to have fun playing a little basketball. Students will have the option of working with other gym equipment also.     Origami and paper art (Sanford)

    Calling all beautiful paper lovers! This class will learn the art of origami. Students will work with an instructor to learn the basics of paper folding and get into more complex paper art projects. Grab your friends and join for a relaxing afternoon of visiting, getting to know other students and making really cool origami!     SAGE stands for Sexuality and Gender Equity, and is a community for LGBTQ+ students AND allies. SAGE works to make Sanford a more inclusive place for all genders and sexualities. Sage is led by Ms. Pearlstein-Levy in collaboration with Minneapolis Public School's OUT4GOOD department. Join SAGE to find a safe space where you can express yourself, make friends and have fun.

    Unified Arts and Games (Sanford)

    Unified is lead by Ms. Wessman in partnership with Special Olympics of MN. This group will bring students of all abilities together to do fun arts and crafts projects and games and movement. This will be a group to try some new things and have fun! If you love arts and crafts and enjoy games and movement, this is a group for you! Students have a 1:4 staff student ratio.
  • Urban 4H (Sanford)

    Have you ever wondered about how the earth's climate is impacted by how we grow food and what we eat? We will explore our local and state food systems, learn about how what we grow impacts our climate, and ways you can be an important voice in climate resilience related to food. We will grow hydroponic greens and make tasty snacks from what we grow. You will also share your voice through various multi-media channels. Students will take walking field trips to identify plants in the neighborhood and continue to plant and grow food in their indoor greenhouse.     Video Game Design and Coding (Sanford)

    This class will introduce you to computer science through basic coding and video game design. We'll use Scratch and Code.org to create simple video games and animations, and we'll use VEX Code VR to complete virtual coding challenges. Computer science combines science, math, and art - a little something for everyone. If you already like to code, come hang out with others that do too. If you've never tried coding, but you're interested, this will be a great introduction! Please see Mr. Crabtree in Room 301 if you have any questions.
