    Adventures with Mentors (2-5)

    A team of College Y Mentors will be coming weekly to your after school program with a new adventure each week. We will be doing a variety of activities through Y Mentor Adventures Imagination Stations. Each week we will have an opportunity to use our imaginations creating all kinds of fun activities, which could include creating and playing games, travel, nature, music, science, art, and even learning how to grow your brain! It will be super fun using our imaginations together, come join us! There is no fee for this program

    Anime & Origami (3-5)

    Join fellow Anime & Origami fans after school in the Anime Club! Members will connect with like-minded peers and share their favorite shows and characters, talk all things anime, while engaging in weekly origami themes! A 96 page Origami book will be offered to club members, which includes colored papers to be folded. Weekly meetings will discuss currently airing shows, as well as a look back on the fundamental, foundational, and can't miss classics through the history of Anime. In addition, one origami shape will be completed during club discussions to offer students something stimulating to do with their hands, and grow their passion for Origami! $15 materials fee included in addition to class fee for origami supplies. If materials fee needs to be waived, please contact the Community Education Coordinator at Andrew.kallevig@mpls.k12.mn.us In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer full scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining.     Bookie Woogie: Literacy with Kia (1-3) (ALC)

    This literacy class with be taught by Kia Britan, one or Seward's Literacy Teachers. The class is designed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students (E1) and will focus on literature with BIPOC characters and by BIPOC authors. There is no fee for this program
  • CLIMB Theatre Drama Club (3-5)

    Program theme: CLIMB’s “Acting with Good V.I.B.E.S” The artist’s tools of voice, imagination, body, exploration, and self-discipline (V.I.B.E.S.) will be sharpened as participants exercise and apply CLIMB’s 5 skill A.R.E.A.S. (Accountability, Resiliency, Empathy, Advocacy, Self-Regulation) through the collaborative process of theatre. Through acting, improvisation, playwriting, and other elements of the theatre-making process, participants will have the opportunity to grow as individual artists while strengthening vital social-emotional skills. When applicable, a sharing and/or demonstration of learning will be developed and shared to a wider audience.

    Join Kelly O'Brien and Christine Brand as they lead hands on STEM activities where students get to build airplanes, kites, parachutes, hot air balloons and rockets. There is no fee for this program

    Girls on the Run (Grades 3-5)

    At Girls on the Run Minnesota, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. Trained volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy.

    Gym with Lanaya (K-5)

    Join Lanaya after school in the gym for a club where you get to move! Shake, shuffle, and slide off the school day as students engage in weekly exercises and gym games between 4 and 5:30 that invigorate your student to increase focus and a body calm for time at home!   • Nature Explores by Camp Fire MN (4-5)

    Your child is invited to register for Camp Fire Minnesota's After-school Explorers Program. This takes place during after-school programming at Seward on Mondays & Wednesdays. Registration is open to students in grades 4-5. Students will explore their interests and grow their comfort in the outdoors while going on field trips to local nature spaces in Minneapolis. They'll develop skills like snow-shoeing, birding with binoculars, ice-fishing, animal and plant I.D., ice skating, etc. They'll visit Minneapolis lakes, the Mississippi River, community gardens and more! Camp Fire naturalists and Community Ed. staff will chaperone students, and Camp Fire staff will occasionally transport students in a 15-passenger van.     Seward Seed Sowers (1-3)

    Join Jackie, our Outdoor Learning Coordinator, starting seeds indoors and developing early interest in gardening and planting. Start your own plants in our indoor plant lab. Club meets weekly to watch growth and talk/learn about all things gardening and planting.     Twin Cities Chess Club (K-5)

    Introducing our exciting chess class for youth, brought to you by Community Ed and Twin Cities Chess Club! Join us in a fun and engaging environment where young minds can unleash their strategic thinking and sharpen their problem-solving skills. Our chess class is designed to cater to all skill levels, from beginners to intermediate players. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other, play friendly matches, and participate in tournaments to put their skills to the test. Our focus extends beyond the game itself, fostering critical thinking, patience, decision-making, and the ability to analyze complex situations. Whether your child is interested in casual play or aspires to compete at a higher level, our chess class offers a supportive and nurturing environment to develop their abilities.
