The Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant, one of the largest in the nation, treats over 70% of the waste water produced in the twin cities area. Learn how waste water from faucets, bathrooms and kitchen sinks are treated to make them safe to return to the Mississippi River. 

This tour includes an outdoor walking portion. Please dress for the weather. We also require everyone wear sturdy shoes or boots that completely cover their feet and clothing that completely covers their legs, for safety and comfort. 

No personal items can be brought on tour and no photographs or video can be taken. 

We recommend that everyone take the time to watch a 14-minute video about Metropolitan Council Environmental Services and the Twin Cities regional wastewater treatment system before their visit. It can be viewed at the link below:
