What are your life experiences or social justice issues that inspire you? Each week you will use those emotions, stories, or perspectives through the power of words and spoken poetry. If you had the chance to share your voice with the world through poetry, what would you want to say and why? We will read, write, and perform a tapestry of poetry. As we explore the many different types of poetry and poets students will work on their own writing techniques and performance skills. We will explore themes that encourage students to delve into their own experiences, the power of their voices, and social justice issues. Students will dive into the evolution of spoken word poetry and its cultural and social significance by exploring the works of some of the most inspiring poets and performers. Furthermore, students will showcase their poetry through live performances and an anthology of their poetry and art.
