    1st/2nd Gr.: GEMS/GISE: Lego Robotics (Tues & Thur 2:10pm - 5:10pm)

    GEMS/GISE Lego Robotics: Tuesdays & Thursdays In this dynamic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) robotics class, students will explore mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. Working in pairs with LEGO building elements, motors, and sensors, they will build various robot prototypes. Students will program these robots to move, react, and make sounds, applying their skills to solve design challenges using LEGO SPIKE Essential & Prime robotic systems.     3rd – 5th Grade Tuesdays and Thursdays: Camp Fire MN AfterSchool Explorers (2:10pm - 5:10pm) Your child is invited to register for Camp Fire Minnesota's After-school Explorers Program. This takes place during after-school programming at Las Estrellas on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students will develop hands-on outdoor exploration skills such as hammocking, fishing, birding with binoculars, snowshoeing, animal and plant I.D., and more. They will also go on field trips to local nature spaces including community gardens, Minneapolis lakes, the Mississippi River & more with Camp Fire naturalists staff and Las Estrellas staff in a 15-passenger van. 3ro – 5to Grado Martes y Jueves: Camp Fire MN AfterSchool Exploradores (2:10pm - 5:10pm) Su hijo/a está invitado a registrarse en el programa de exploradores de Camp Fire Minnesota en “AfterSchool”.     7th/8th Grade Jazz Band-ALC

    Students seeking more opportunities to play band instruments in an ensemble can do so while getting an introduction to the exciting world of jazz! Students will learn about the history of the music, the development of jazz rhythm and chord structures, and will learn and practice improvisation! This course is open to students who have two or more years playing experience on the instrument. *Note all classes for ALC are free. The optional fee is for snack. Students will receive snack whether they are able to pay the fee or not. The snack fee is $1.25 x the number of days of the ALC class for the session.

Ms. Mariah will guide students through the entire creative and publishing process, from the first spark of an idea to holding the finished product in their hands.

    Where creativity meets technology! In this innovative program, your child will design, build, and program their own Lego robots, learning the basics of engineering and coding. It’s a thrilling introduction to STEM that will spark curiosity and inspire future inventors. Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite your child to participate in Afterschool Programming at Marcy Elementary School. Programming this year will focus on GEMS and GISE Lego Robotics Stem Academy (specific topic below). Space is limited so register as soon as possible for priority consideration! Fall/Winter 2025- Robotics - In this exciting robotics class students learn mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. In pairs, using LEGO building elements, motors, and sensors, students build different robot prototypes and program them with a computer to move, react, and make sounds. Students will utilize their prototypes and programming to solve design challenges using the LEGO We Do 2.0, EV3 or the Lego Spike Prime Robotic Systems. District Robotics Exhibition on Marcy's Academic Night. Spring 2026 - Robotics (theme TBD) - In these engaging and investigative classes students are immersed in the fundamentals of energy, electricity, and electronics. Students explore energy sources, examine energy basics (energy measured, converted, and transferred) and the future of energy including conservation and alternatives through an interactive problem based approach. Students conduct hands-on investigations into the properties of electricity – currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and static electricity. Students work and learn through exciting, project-based electronics experiments utilizing circuit boards and electronic components for circuit construction, testing, and troubleshooting.     Ms. Rhonda Lund is back at Sanford in After-school running Acting, Drama and Skits! Students learn simple acting techniques and vocabulary through studying monologues and scenes. They will then begin basic script analysis and character development and apply these principles towards in-class performances. Students will write their own play and perform!     Afterschool Sampler (Gr. 1-2)

    This class is packed with surprises! Make tasty edible art, play awesome gym games, and explore the outdoors when the weather (or snow!) lets us. We’ll also build with Legos and other cool projects—every day is a new adventure! Sliding Scale Fee: To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Ed offers fees on a sliding scale. When paying online, the “Class Fee” represents the amount to cover all costs associated with the class such as: snack, admin support, partnership fees etc. The rates above “Class Fee” allow us to scholarship students at lower rates.     Come join Eva Adderley with Articulture in this new class "Animal Companions". Create all your favorite animals! In this class, we will make animal-themed projects in a variety of art forms, such as puppetry, sewing, and papercraft. Class is 7 weeks Please list ALL authorized to pick-up during checkout. Parents/ Guardians will need to check in with Krystal at Door 12 (north side of the building near the bike racks). Classes clean up at 5:20 PM. Parent sign out is 5:20- 5:30 PM All classes have a set fee (first option listed). We encourage all families to pay. Lower fees are for families who qualify for free and reduced lunch. If choosing the lower option, you are acknowledging your family is on FRL or finances have substantially changed.   • Anthony Musical-ALC

    Students will build their skills in singing, dancing, and acting as they prepare for our Spring Musical, Matilda Jr. Students must be registered on Eleyo and submit their registration packet prior to attending audition workshops starting December 1st or 2nd. Registration packets can be obtained from Ms. Goldammer or Coach Henning. Students wishing to register for tech crew will have the opportunity to do so beginning in January. Anthony Musical starts December 1, 2025 will conclude March 12, 2026.

    Anthony Newspaper -ALC

    Catch the Buzz! This course is an opportunity for students to put their own mark on the wildly popular Anthony Newspaper “The Buzz”! Students will practice writing, editing, formatting, printing and distributing their very own newspaper. Anyone with an interest in sharing their creativity with our school should join! Students in this course are also invited to participate in the Minneapolis Book Review program where students can get paid to read and review books! *Note all classes for ALC are free.
