    Calling all theater lovers! "Disney Musicals in Schools" is coming to Keewaydin! We are proud to announce that Keewaydin has been chosen by Hennepin Arts to receive a three year grant to enhance our performing arts program in grades 2-5. This year we will be performing "101 Dalmatians” as our Musical! Ms. Perez & Ms. Johnson will be the leads as well as two Hennepin Arts teaching artists. *This opportunity requires students to sign up for afterschool both winter & spring sessions- Tuesdays AND Thursdays. It is a full commitment and an amazing opportunity. Students will be performing 3 total shows and a student sharing performance will be on May 19th at the State Theater! Parents & families are invited to all performances. Space is limited. Come join the show!     2nd Grade: (Tuesdays: Creative Crew:) & (Thursdays: Y-Mentors with YMCA!) Tuesdays: Join the Creative Crew for hands-on projects that inspire teamwork and innovation! Students will craft, design, and explore their creative side in a fun group setting. Thursdays: Build friendships and leadership skills with YMCA mentors! Students will engage in games, activities, and discussions that promote confidence and community with U of MN Students.

    Learn to code and bring robots to life! Students will program their own Sphero robots to move, spin, and complete exciting challenges. Perfect for tech-loving problem solvers.

    Get active and build your skills on the court! Students will learn teamwork, practice drills, and play games in a fun, supportive environment. Students on the Loring Leopards basketball team will compete against other MPS schools including Lucy Laney, Cityview, Nelli Stone Johnson & more! *For students who opt out of the basketball team, Sports U will provide an alternative option that includes participation in a variety of sports samplers.

    7th/8th Grade Jazz Band-ALC (Anthony)

    Students seeking more opportunities to play band instruments in an ensemble can do so while getting an introduction to the exciting world of jazz! Students will learn about the history of the music, the development of jazz rhythm and chord structures, and will learn and practice improvisation! This course is open to students who have two or more years playing experience on the instrument. *Note all classes for ALC are free. The optional fee is for snack. Students will receive snack whether they are able to pay the fee or not. The snack fee is $1.25 x the number of days of the ALC class for the session.

    ALC: Birds of Minnesota: Feathers, Finches, & Falcons! Mon & Wed (K-2) Hale Afterschool, Mondays & Wednesdays

    Ready to fly? Experience the Birds of Minnesota with Hale's art teacher, Ms. Meg! Our students swan-dive into a world of discovery through hands-on, minds-on learning. We use a project-based and problem-based approach that seamlessly integrates literacy, art, and math skills, making learning more dynamic and fun! Spark your child’s imagination with a joyful blend of reading, storytelling, and hands-on art! In this engaging afterschool program, young learners explore books, build early literacy skills, and bring stories to life through creative projects. Perfect for curious minds and budding artists, it’s a fun, supportive space where learning and creativity shine together. Winter Session, 1/12/26 - 3/5/26 No Community Ed programming Jan 19, Feb. 16, nor 17 Bus **In order for your child to have bussing on the first day of programming please register by Dec 14. If you register after Dec 14, bussing may not be available for your student right away.** This program will take place at Hale Elementary School 5330 13th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55417. We will be meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays this year at the same time as Hale's Community Education. Enrollment is for the entire year so please email me if your family chooses to stop attending so I can make necessary changes in our system. In the winter & spring spaces are available for more students to join us and information will come out at those times. Programming is open to Grades K-2. Pick-up will be at Hale Elementary School at 5:40PM at Door #8 connected to the parking lot. Hale School’s main office # (612) 668-3760, if you have questions during the day. Early pick-up, please e-mail prior to 12:30pm on that day or earlier. Confirmation emails and details will be sent. Families on the waiting list will also be notified. Fall 2025- Our young bird explorers will dive into stories, songs, and colorful books all about Minnesota’s feathered friends! Students will draw, label, and scribble in their own little “bird journals” as they learn to spot chickadees, finches, and other autumn visitors. We’ll create bright feather prints, cozy collage nests, and splashy watercolor birds inspired by what we read. They’ll learn to identify common Minnesota birds by color, shape, and sound while practicing labeling, drawing, and descriptive writing. Art projects may include feather-print painting, collage nests, watercolor finches and more. Early in the year, we focus on building curiosity, vocabulary, and confidence as young readers and artists. Winter 2026- Students will become mini scientists as they compare cardinals, owls, and jays while building their vocabulary using informational stories, picture books, and kid-friendly research routines strengthening comprehension and critical thinking. Our art tables will come alive with soft chalk-pastel owls, cheerful cardinal puppets, and fluffy winter habitats. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, learning, and cozy winter magic! Spring 2025- Spring brings sunshine and so many new birds to explore! Students will enjoy sweet springtime stories, rhyming read alouds, and simple writing prompts as they learn about nests, eggs, and migrating songbirds. Art projects will bloom with nature-made nests, bright robin paintings, and colorful bird masks ready for pretend play. It’s a happy, hands-on season that celebrates reading, creativity, and the excitement of spring!     Ms. Rhonda Lund is back at Sanford in After-school running Acting, Drama and Skits! Students learn simple acting techniques and vocabulary through studying monologues and scenes. They will then begin basic script analysis and character development and apply these principles towards in-class performances. Students will write their own play and perform!     Adventures With Y Mentors (Waite Park Gr. 1-5)

    A team of College Y Mentors will be coming weekly to our after school program with a new adventure each week. Each week we will have an opportunity to use our imaginations creating all kinds of fun activities, which could include creating and playing games, travel, nature, music science, art, and even learning how to grow your brain! This is a grant funded club that is $0 for participants.
  • Afterschool Music Ensemble (Justice Page-ALC)

    Join Afterschool Music Ensemble with Mr. Kaiser! Students who sign up for this class can get help with: Practicing their instrument (minutes do count towards your practice calendar). Learning a second instrument Work in a duet, trio, or small group! Having practice space for a rock band or other ensemble to meet. and any other musical ideas you have! Class will meet twice a week to make it easier for as many students as possible to attend. Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school! This class is only open to Justice Page students.

    Afterschool Sampler (Gr. 1-2)

    This class is packed with surprises! Make tasty edible art, play awesome gym games, and explore the outdoors when the weather (or snow!) lets us. We’ll also build with Legos and other cool projects—every day is a new adventure! Sliding Scale Fee: To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Ed offers fees on a sliding scale. When paying online, the “Class Fee” represents the amount to cover all costs associated with the class such as: snack, admin support, partnership fees etc. The rates above “Class Fee” allow us to scholarship students at lower rates. Please select the price that works best for your family.
  • Animal Companions (Grades K-2)

    Come join Eva Adderley with Articulture in this new class "Animal Companions". Create all your favorite animals! In this class, we will make animal-themed projects in a variety of art forms, such as puppetry, sewing, and papercraft. Class is 7 weeks Please list ALL authorized to pick-up during checkout. Parents/ Guardians will need to check in with Krystal at Door 12 (north side of the building near the bike racks). Classes clean up at 5:20 PM. Parent sign out is 5:20- 5:30 PM All classes have a set fee (first option listed). We encourage all families to pay. Lower fees are for families who qualify for free and reduced lunch. If choosing the lower option, you are acknowledging your family is on FRL or finances have substantially changed. The higher options cover scholarships for students to participate in after school classes.

    Join Anime club! Meet and spend time with fellow anime lovers. We'll be taking a look at some of the most popular anime series and films. We watch a variety of series and shows that the youth suggest and vote on. Ratings for anmie vary but kids tend to suggest series that are PG, PG-13, and TV 14. In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education offers fees on a sliding scale. Families are asked to pick the class fee or a price that they are able to pay. When families participate as they are able, at all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining and our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable.     Students will build their skills in singing, dancing, and acting as they prepare for our Spring Musical, Matilda Jr. Students must be registered on Eleyo and submit their registration packet prior to attending audition workshops starting December 1st or 2nd. Registration packets can be obtained from Ms. Goldammer or Coach Henning. Students wishing to register for tech crew will have the opportunity to do so beginning in January. Anthony Musical starts December 1, 2025 will conclude March 12, 2026.

    Anthony Newspaper -ALC

    Catch the Buzz! This course is an opportunity for students to put their own mark on the wildly popular Anthony Newspaper “The Buzz”! Students will practice writing, editing, formatting, printing and distributing their very own newspaper. Anyone with an interest in sharing their creativity with our school should join! Students in this course are also invited to participate in the Minneapolis Book Review program where students can get paid to read and review books! *Note all classes for ALC are free.     Art & Acting Adventures (Grades K-1)

    Create and have fun! This class is designed to bring out the big artists in our students! The projects will help develop their artistic skills and experiment with a variety of materials. This class will offer a variety of art projects including painting, collages, drawing, and mixed media. Students will work together to create a small play at the end of the session with the art work they make!     Be inspired, get creative, and make cool art! You'll exchange creative ideas, create works of art, and meet new friends with similar interests. This class will be a hands-on, creative thinking, individual expression, and experimentation workshop atmosphere. This is a great place to explore your artistic interests.
