Firearms are the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. In Minnesota, the most common gun death is suicide, making up 71% of gun deaths.
The Be SMART curriculum of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is focused on topics like safe storage practices, suicide awareness, and normalizing conversations about guns in the home.
This presentation includes an overview of some Minnesota firearm laws – including Extreme Risk Protection Orders, which allow for the temporary removal of firearms from the home of someone who is a danger to themselves or others.
