Adirondack Chair Workshop (Anwatin)
Get ready to sit outside this summer season in style with a beautiful creation all your own! Practice the craft of woodworking without making a mess at home by building your own Adirondack chair in the park while guided by the expertise of Elpis Enterprises. Elpis Enterprises (Elpis is Greek for Hope) is a Saint Paul-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides job training, work experience and job placement for homeless or precariously-housed young people ages 16-23. Through several social enterprises, youth build skills, build experience and build relationships in the community. Young people develop as individuals and potential employees by working in real enterprises gaining the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to overcome homelessness and become contributing members of our community. Create joy for yourself and others – for every two chairs built, one will be donated to adults with developmental disabilities in our community. These workshops are a collaborative program between, Elpis Enterprises, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and Minneapolis Community Education. All materials and tools provided. The Nuts and Bolts of Food Preservation (South)
This introductory class provides research-based knowledge and scientific resources on the basics of food preservation. Participants will learn about the proper equipment, procedures and storage methods for boiling water canning, pressure canning, jelly/jam making, pickling, fermenting and drying techniques, with a focus on safety.
