    Perfect for those who’ve never used a sewing machine! In this fun and supportive class, you’ll learn the essential do’s and don’ts of machine sewing while completing a simple, practical project—a reversible tote bag. By the end of class, you’ll feel confident using a sewing machine and proud of your finished creation. Note: You must either use one of our classroom machines or have completed the Machine Empowerment: Getting to Know Your Home Sewing Machine class before enrolling.     Basic Hand Sewing (Camden)

    Learn basic hand sewing techniques including several stitches to do your own mending: stitch up a rip, sew on a button, put on a hook and eye, place a patch or darn those holes.     Linoleum block printing can feel intimidating, but with the right tools and guidance, it’s an accessible and rewarding medium for artists of all levels. In this class, Constanza will guide you through each step of the process: transferring your design, carving, proofing, and finally printing your block. Before class, please research linoleum block prints and arrive with a prepared design, so you’re ready to begin carving. After registration, you’ll receive details on design specifications and helpful tips. All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave class with your own finished 4"x6" block-print stamp.

  • Collage on 3-D Objects (Camden)

    Bring your own lampshade, jewelry box or similar item and give it a new life by decorating it. You will do this by cutting shapes from paper and taping them inside a lampshade, creating a surprise effect of the shapes showing through when the lamp is on, or by covering the surface with colorful shapes and pictures. It's not hard; join with other fun-seeking people for a creative, fun time.

    Learn a selection of basic crochet stitches and how to complete a simple Granny Square. Within this class you will create either a large project or a few smaller projects with these stitches. Some crochet outside of class might be needed, but not required. Supply list sent upon registration.

    Stuck on a stitch? let's fix it! Dust off that "work in progress" and join us for a night of guided crochet! This refresher workshop is an open project space dedicated to helping you tackle tricky techniques and confusing patterns. Taylor will be present throughout the evening to offer personalized guidance, fix mistakes, and keep your hooks moving. It’s the perfect opportunity to turn your "unfinished object" into a finished masterpiece. Advanced beginners to Intermediate crocheters (you should already know your basic stitches and how to read a pattern).

    For intermediate or advanced-beginner crocheters only (know all basic stitches and have some pattern reading skills). NO BEGINNER STUDENTS. Crochet a hanging plant to keep you company in the winter months with no care routine needed! We will craft a plant inside of a holder with supports to suspend your plant. Each plant can be customized to your ideal length of drape/vines hanging. Three colors of yarn will be needed: a green for the plant, a brown for the soil and the color of your plant "pot"!

As you work, Marta will outline the history and rules of crop art so you will leave the class ready to make a piece for the Minnesota State Fair!     Cultivating Your Creative Process (Washburn)

    Come and gather for 6 weeks with other folks moving towards their creative selves. We will do exercises of imagination and creation used by artists with a mindfulness approach. Expect to have regular quiet time exploring through guided exercises, and to connect with the larger group through listening and sharing. You do not need to be an artist or have something specifically in mind to take this class! Folks who take this class often come in feeling stuck in some kind of a rut, or wanting some support to keep their momentum going. We will work on this together! There will be occasional optional movement and low lighting, arrive scent free when possible. Please bring something to write and draw in, like a sketchbook or notebook, and something to write with.

    Rips and holes can happen in our favorite knit garments, including t-shirts, socks, and workout clothes. Heal all of those holes with darning and community during this two hour class.     Learn 8 Basic embroidery stitches while completing a sampler. Make an embroidery sampler as we learn the basic embroidery stitches. Whether you are just starting out or picking up the hoop after a long time away, this is a great place to start. Please bring a wooden embroidery hoop, size 1-5 embroidery needle, scissors, and a few skeins of embroidery floss in your favorite colors. Pre-printed fabric cloth will be provided.

In this hands-on class, we’ll begin with the influence of Chinese porcelain and trace the evolution of tile design through Moorish geometry, Dutch Delftware, and end in contemporary Portugal. As we explore the cultural connections behind these beautiful traditions, you’ll design your own pattern and paint a ceramic tile with underglaze to bring history to life in your own hands.

    Garment Construction: Intro to Sewing (Ella Baker)

    Learn to use a sewing machine to complete an easy garment. In the first session, we will cover sewing machine basics and how to measure correctly. Everyone will leave with a full set of measurements. In the second session, students will bring the pattern and materials needed to complete the project, and we will learn how to read the pattern and layout the pattern pieces to cut. The third session will be construction and troubleshooting.     This class is great for beginners with or without any experience! The student will learn safety fundamentals, tool and torch usage, solid rod welding and gathering, color application, shaping, and more. Students will be able to create small trinkets, marbles, paper weights, plant rods, or anything else that can be thought of with the skills learned. Class Policies: Please arrive at your scheduled class a few minutes early to fill out applicable paperwork and receive assigned safety glasses. Liability waivers and emergency contact forms must be filled out in order to participate in class. These forms will be provided upon arrival, prior to your scheduled class. Requirements: No sandals or open footwear - shoes must have closed toes and heels No loose sleeves or long dangling necklaces/bracelets Long hair must be tied back Please come to class fed and hydrated - standing is required for the duration of class for optimal safety. [A chair may be provided if needed for medical reasons] Recommendations: Cotton or natural fiber clothing recommended (It’s best to avoid synthetic clothing as it could melt in the case of an accident) It is highly recommended that you bring water to drink Free street parking will be available to all students in the front of the building. There is typically ample parking available on our block. If a student arrives to class inebriated they will be asked to leave, for safety purposes. Students will not receive a refund in this case.

    Mending clothing with functional and decorative stitching is a great way to embellish clothing and make art for your home. This class is perfect for absolute beginners to hand stitching and folks who need a refresher. We'll cover five stitch types, learn about stencils, and do hands-on stitching.     1.5 hour seminar on Hand-Poured Candle making at Kobi Co., a Black Women-Owned company in downtown Minneapolis. Picture yourself diving deep into the rhythms of creation, grooving to the art of candle crafting. This class is where you'll compose a one-of-a-kind candle, infused with your own signature fragrance, decked out with enchanting charms, and sparkling like your favorite vinyl on a Saturday night. Kobi Co. is a luxury candle and wellness company based in Minneapolis. Kobi Co. Founded in 2020 by 17-year-old Kobi Gregory, as a self care ritual to help her cope with the stress of distance learning during the pandemic.
