    Ready to fly? Experience the Birds of Minnesota with Hale's art teacher, Ms. Meg! Our students swan-dive into a world of discovery through hands-on, minds-on learning. We use a project-based and problem-based approach that seamlessly integrates literacy, art, and math skills, making learning more dynamic and fun! Spark your child’s imagination with a joyful blend of reading, storytelling, and hands-on art! In this engaging afterschool program, young learners explore books, build early literacy skills, and bring stories to life through creative projects. Winter Session, 1/12/26 - 3/5/26 No Community Ed programming Jan 19, Feb. 16, nor 17 Bus **In order for your child to have bussing on the first day of programming please register by Dec 14. If you register after Dec 14, bussing may not be available for your student right away.** This program will take place at Hale Elementary School 5330 13th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55417. We will be meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays this year at the same time as Hale's Community Education. Enrollment is for the entire year so please email me if your family chooses to stop attending so I can make necessary changes in our system. In the winter & spring spaces are available for more students to join us and information will come out at those times. Programming is open to Grades K-2. Pick-up will be at Hale Elementary School at 5:40PM at Door #8 connected to the parking lot. Hale School’s main office # (612) 668-3760, if you have questions during the day. Early pick-up, please e-mail prior to 12:30pm on that day or earlier. Confirmation emails and details will be sent. Families on the waiting list will also be notified. Fall 2025- Our young bird explorers will dive into stories, songs, and colorful books all about Minnesota’s feathered friends! Students will draw, label, and scribble in their own little “bird journals” as they learn to spot chickadees, finches, and other autumn visitors. We’ll create bright feather prints, cozy collage nests, and splashy watercolor birds inspired by what we read. They’ll learn to identify common Minnesota birds by color, shape, and sound while practicing labeling, drawing, and descriptive writing. Art projects may include feather-print painting, collage nests, watercolor finches and more. Early in the year, we focus on building curiosity, vocabulary, and confidence as young readers and artists. Winter 2026- Students will become mini scientists as they compare cardinals, owls, and jays while building their vocabulary using informational stories, picture books, and kid-friendly research routines strengthening comprehension and critical thinking. Our art tables will come alive with soft chalk-pastel owls, cheerful cardinal puppets, and fluffy winter habitats. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, learning, and cozy winter magic! Spring 2025- Spring brings sunshine and so many new birds to explore! Students will enjoy sweet springtime stories, rhyming read alouds, and simple writing prompts as they learn about nests, eggs, and migrating songbirds. Art projects will bloom with nature-made nests, bright robin paintings, and colorful bird masks ready for pretend play. It’s a happy, hands-on season that celebrates reading, creativity, and the excitement of spring! After-school bus routes can take longer please be aware every attempt will be made to have children home using the fastest route there are still many more children on each bus. If a bus is more than 15 minutes late phone calls will be made to notify families.     Chess is back with our All Star Community Ed Chess coach Dave! Start your child’s love of strategy early with Chess & Games! This afterschool class introduces young minds to the world of chess, along with other classic games that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It’s a fun and engaging way to develop patience, strategy, and sportsmanship—let the games begin! Join us for weekly challenges and games as we make friends while we learn the basics of chess. We will hone our skills in Chess, Checkers, and other tabletop board games. There are seasonal district wide chess tournaments that your student will have the opportunity to participate in. This Fall Hale & Field students took 2nd place in the K-3 section and 3rd in the 4-6 section. Stay tuned for future Check It Out Chess Tournaments! In this fun-filled afterschool class, kids will build colorful Lego structures and bring their ideas to life through drawing. It’s the perfect blend of hands-on play and artistic expression—ideal for little builders and budding artists alike! In this class we will make friends, use our imagination, and sketch and construct our LEGO creations. We offer optional building challenges for our classes, but free-building is also an option.     CE: Yoga & Active Play! (K-2) Hale Afterschool, Mondays

    Join Ms. Elena for fun kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade gym games, physical activity, and yoga afterschool! Get ready to stretch, move, and giggle! In Yoga & Play, your child will explore playful yoga poses and fun activities designed to boost flexibility, focus, and relaxation. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a busy school day, combining physical fitness with mindful fun. A happy, healthy experience for every Hale Bear! Recess and gym games are a great stimulus to develop your child’s motor ability, and yoga increases body awareness and mindfulness. To give students time to move around and unwind afterschool, the first two thirds of the class we will play games like catching stars, spaceship tag, and musical hula hoops. The last third of the class students will be invited to re-center and calm their minds with yoga. This class will take place in the Hale Gymnasium with Larissa Parr and Ashley Bruun. Your child(ren) will experience different activities during each session. Activities include lifelong sport, recreation and fitness: most all individual and team sports, rope jumping, racket games, track and field, kickball, tag games, ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, bowling, volleyball, lord of the rings, pin guard, mini mighty stations, Danish baseball and many others. Teachers also incorporate math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness into their lessons. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Lessons are designed to keep kids engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized.     Come join Snapology for Pokemania. Students will build and explore the world of Pokemon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their very own generation of Pokemon. Children will also learn about real world science as they learn about the habitats of the Pokemon. Your child will have a blast becoming the best Pokemon trainer ever.
