    Active Solutions: PE Adventures (K-2) Hale Afterschool, Mondays

    Hale Physical Education Teacher, Larissa Parr, and Windom Physical Education Teacher, Ashley Bruun, have taken the best of Physical Education and created an after school course your child(ren) will not forget! This class will take place in the Hale Gymnasium. Your child(ren) will experience different activities during each session. Activities include lifelong sport, recreation and fitness: most all individual and team sports, rope jumping, racket games, track and field, kickball, tag games, ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, bowling, volleyball, lord of the rings, pin guard, mini mighty stations, Danish baseball and many others. Teachers also incorporate math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness into their lessons. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Lessons are designed to keep kids engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Fall Session, 9/30/24 - 12/19/24, No Community Ed programming Oct 3, Oct. 14-18 (MEA week) nor Nov. 5 (US Elections), Nov. 25-29 (Thanksgiving) This course has a $10 supply fee which is included in the cost of the class. In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs.     BBA: Athletic Club (Grade K-2) Hale Afterschool, Wednesdays

    Get your child moving and grooving with BBA Athletic Club! This energetic afterschool program offers a variety of fun sports and activities that promote teamwork, fitness, and coordination. Whether running, jumping, or playing games, kids will burn off energy while learning the basics of staying active and healthy. In this class we will play a variety of gym games designed to keep all participants active and engaged. These games will include variations or tag, kickball, dodgeball, capture the flag, basketball, soccer, and more. Student athletes will have a blast while getting a great deal of exercise!     CE: Active Play & Yoga! (K-2) Hale Afterschool, Mondays

    Join Ms. Elena for fun kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade gym games, physical activity, and yoga afterschool! Get ready to stretch, move, and giggle! In Yoga & Play, your child will explore playful yoga poses and fun activities designed to boost flexibility, focus, and relaxation. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a busy school day, combining physical fitness with mindful fun. A happy, healthy experience for every Hale Bear! Recess and gym games are a great stimulus to develop your child’s motor ability, and yoga increases body awareness and mindfulness. To give students time to move around and unwind afterschool, the first two thirds of the class we will play games like catching stars, spaceship tag, and musical hula hoops. The last third of the class students will be invited to re-center and calm their minds with yoga.     CE: Chess & Games: Brilliant Bears Edition (Grade K-2) Hale Afterschool, Wednesdays

    Chess is back with our All Star Community Ed Chess coach Dave! Start your child’s love of strategy early with Chess & Games! This afterschool class introduces young minds to the world of chess, along with other classic games that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It’s a fun and engaging way to develop patience, strategy, and sportsmanship—let the games begin! Join us for weekly challenges and games as we make friends while we learn the basics of chess. We will hone our skills in Chess, Checkers, and other tabletop board games. There are seasonal district wide chess tournaments that your student will have the opportunity to participate in. Our Hale & Field students took 1st place in the K-3 section of the Check It Out Chess Tournament Fall 2023, 3rd in Winter, & 2nd in Spring! Stay tuned for future Check It Out Chess Tournaments! Through engaging art projects, your child will learn about the importance of kindness and how to express it through their artwork.     Spark your child’s imagination with a creative combo of Legos and drawing! In this fun-filled afterschool class, kids will build colorful Lego structures and bring their ideas to life through drawing. It’s the perfect blend of hands-on play and artistic expression—ideal for little builders and budding artists alike! In this class we will make friends, use our imagination, and sketch and construct our LEGO creations. We offer optional building challenges for our classes, but free-building is also an option.     Take off on a robotics adventure featuring LEGO® models with working motors and sensors! Work in teams under guided instructions to build and program your models, such as giants, soccer players, and boats, for a fun adventure. Build a different model each class! Learning is enhanced through use of tablets and coding software.     Send your child on an exciting adventure with Snapology as we explore the theatrical worlds of the movies we all love! Build LEGO® -inspired projects based on the LEGO® Movies, Trolls®, Ninjago®, Harry Potter®, Star Wars®, super hero movies and more fan faves. Throughout the session we'll build, create, explore, and learn some STEAM concepts as we remember all of those fun movies we've watched!
