    In this exciting class, you'll learn how to tell a compelling story, craft expressive characters, and explore the art of stop-motion animation, where every small movement you make transforms your clay figures into lively characters on the screen.     Students will look, see, wander, wonder, explore and learn about the natural environment right outside our school doors while taking on the roles of meteorologists and naturalists. This course provides an opportunity for urban youth to learn about their environment and begin their journey to becoming stewards of our natural resources.   • ALC: GEMS & GISE Lego Robotics (K-3) Mondays & Wednesdays

    Where creativity meets technology! In this innovative program, your child will design, build, and program their own Lego robots, learning the basics of engineering and coding. It’s a thrilling introduction to STEM that will spark curiosity and inspire future inventors. Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite your child to participate in Afterschool Programming at Marcy Elementary School. Programming this year will focus on GEMS and GISE Lego Robotics Stem Academy (specific topic below). Space is limited so register as soon as possible for priority consideration! Enroll today and watch them create the future! Must attend both days! Spring 2026 - Robotics (theme TBD) - In these engaging and investigative classes students are immersed in the fundamentals of energy, electricity, and electronics. Students explore energy sources, examine energy basics (energy measured, converted, and transferred) and the future of energy including conservation and alternatives through an interactive problem based approach. Students conduct hands-on investigations into the properties of electricity – currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and static electricity. Students work and learn through exciting, project-based electronics experiments utilizing circuit boards and electronic components for circuit construction, testing, and troubleshooting.     Students will develop hands on outdoor explorations skills such as hammocking, birding with binoculars, animal and plant knowledge. They will go on field trips every Wednesday to local nature places, such as community gardens, Minneapolis lakes, the Mississippi River & more. Must attend BOTH days

  • Human Beat Boxing & Vocal Percussion: Your Body Is An Instrument (2-5) Monday

    Terrell X’s adaptable Human Beat Boxing & Vocal Percussion: Your Body Is An Instrument residency is a one-of-a-kind experience. It features fun exercises delivered with a no-judgment approach. You will learn: Beat Box Basics: Where did it come from?; How does it fits into the basic structure of Hip-Hop culture? Passion & Proper Position: getting bodies moving; boosting awareness of body part/mouth movements; producing sounds similar to those made by professional Human Beat Boxers. Beat Box Vocab: identifying sounds and motions by name; developing and increasing skills in complex vocalization and intricate phrasing. Conscience and Confidence: raising comfort levels in public speaking and live performance; displaying potent stage presence. Strength & Stamina: building breath-control and improving timing; learning how to count “bars” and measures; holding the rhythm and taking control of their bodies. Leaders Follow, Too: identifying social cues; exploring teamwork through collaboration in music composition.     Welcome to a space built on belonging! This affinity group is designed for 3rd–5th grade students who identify as LGBTQ+, are questioning, or come from LGBTQ+ families. In this supportive and fun environment, students will: Build Community: Connect with peers who share similar experiences and identities. Explore Identity: Engage in age-appropriate conversations and activities centered around self-expression, pride, and diverse family structures. Develop Leadership: Learn about LGBTQ+ history and how to be a positive, confident advocate for themselves and others. Have Fun: Enjoy games, art projects, and storytelling in a safe, inclusive "brave space." Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered within their school community.
