    GEMS is Girls in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science. GISE is Guys in Science and Engineering. This year long Project Based Learning program for students in grades 4, 5 and 6 provides positive early experiences in science, technology, engineering and math. Students work through the Engineering Design Process, share their work, and document their learning. FALL 2025 focus STEM OF SPEED theme. Students build and test model cars, exploring the scientific concepts of speed and aerodynamics of land vehicles.

    Golf 101 (Grades 1-6)

    The students will learn golf etiquette, fundamentals of the golf swing and how to enjoy the game of golf.

    Gym Games (K-6)

    Join Fall after school in the gym for a 11 week club where you get to move! Shake, shuffle, and slide off the school day as students engage in weekly exercises and gym games between 4 and 5:30 that invigorate your student to increase focus and a body calm for time at home! For students grades K-5. In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer full scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining. Thank you for your consideration as you sign up for youth programs!

    Outdoor Learning With Jackie (1-3)

    Join Jackie, our Outdoor Learning Coordinator, We will use our Outdoor Classroom and Mathews Park to develop a deeper understanding of the urban nature around us. Activities might include seed collection, harvesting vegetables, insect hunting and identification, and meadow restoration.     Seward Book Club (Grades 1-3)

    Calling books and friends to the Seward's book club. Students will read silently, buddy reading, and listen to stories. Students will discuss books together and create a small group project to share with the class what made their book special.

    Seward Chess Club

    Seward Sewing (K-3)

    Improving dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and cultivating creativity students will learn basic stitching techniques for hand-sewing and beginner embroidery work. Projects will include making bookmarks, a decorative pillow, felt monsters, finger puppets and more! The course will cover intro to handsewing safety and materials, basic stitches, patterns, design, color theory basics, embroidery and patching. The class is intended for students who have an interest in sewing and will be able to attend and follow safety rules and directions with minimal assistance. Snacks will be provided as well as free choice play time before cleaning up.

    Seward Twin Cities Skaters (K-6)

    Welcome to the future of training - Sk8rsculpt is a class designed to enhance the skating skills for ALL skaters no matter the level or experience. This class targets the movement patterns needed to move efficiently, all done on a yoga mat. Half of the class is OFF skates using your skates as the tool, then second half is in boot training. The class has sections focused on agility, stability, balance, strength, body awareness and reaction speed. Hockey players, Roller derby, Skiirs, Figure skaters and Roller skaters, even skate boarders and inline skaters ALL can become more polished skater. This class is the ultimate universal fitness truth, as it can pertain to anyone who stands up on this earth. Stability training has scientific proof proving that not only physically does wonders but keeps the brain active and healthy. Children have a small window of time of opportunity, where they're brain develops most of its proprioception skills by age of 12. Non-skaters have much to benefit from this style of training. Athletes of all sorts like LeBron James, Shai and Lonzo Ball have implemented stability training as well as kinesthetic awareness growing their own proprioception, keeping an edge on the competition. Every day people can have the opportunity to get fit enough to glide effortlessly like the pros. Even if you plan to never skate, balance and stability will greatly improve your everyday life into old age. Living in Minnesota, slipping on ice is always a possibility, and many elderly folks health start to decline much quicker after a dangerous fall. Did you know skating can burn 600 to 1000 calories an hour? Not only that, it is fun! Knowing this could be a goal just to stay up on your feet and living a fit lifestyle. Whether you are an hobby skater, everyday person looking to grow physically, weekend warrior, upcoming All Star, or a benchwarmer looking to take a teammates spot.     Fall Season- Students will draw, paint, collage, and sculpt fall themes such as trees, bugs, sun, leaves etc).This class is open to all kids who love art and crafts and want to practice with different techniques & materials.
  • Tabletop Roleplaying Club (4th, 5th, 6th grades) - Monday and Wednesday, teacher: Tom Ward

    Attention 4th-6th grade students! The realm is in danger and brave adventurers are needed to save the day! Students will work collaboratively to tell and develop a story. Students use critical thinking and reasoning, creativity, flexible thinking, communication and problem solving, teamwork skills, and fundamental math skills. Students to create artwork, develop characters, and practice storytelling skills.
