Kendama: Mindfulness Through Play (Waite Park Gr. 3-5)

Note: This is a 9 week Fall Session. What is Kendama? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13dpgTqcpnM. Kendama is a growing professional sport in the world with Minneapolis being a hub for some of the best players in the world. Our program merges the fun and excitement of Kendama play with the importance of mindful awareness and emotional regulation. Kendama teaches students basic techniques in mindful breathing designed to help reduce stress, anger and anxiety. The program also focuses on helping students practice emotional awareness and growth mindset through journaling, reflection and through play with kendama in a series of progressively harder challenges and games. Students can expect to be active and moving during our class. No prior Kendama experience is necessary! Students will receive a Kendama to take home and practice. https://www.mindfulnessthroughplay.org/ Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests. When families participate at the higher price levels, they help make the program more sustainable. Pricing Scale: Option 1 - Class Fee - covers staffing and supply costs Option 2 - Higher price level 1- supports sustainable programming & scholarships Option 3 - Higher price level 2 - supports sustainable programming & scholarships Option 4 - Partial Scholarship price Option 5 - Full Scholarship price
  • Musical Theater of MN (Waite Park Gr. 1-5)

Note: This is a 9 week Fall session. This program will enhance confidence and allow children to embrace their love for the arts. We will work on dance, voice, and theater techniques through a series of different exercises and games. You will learn and rehearse songs from well-known musicals such as Hamilton, The Lion King, Aladdin, leading to a mini in-class performance on the last day. If you register after 10/1, your student might not have a bus route for the first week or two of programming, and would be required to be picked up or walk home. Once you register, I will get your students information into our bussing route, and let you know as soon as they have a designated route. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes.
