  • Bodies, Relationships & Consent for Boys, Masc, & Non-Binary Student (Grades 4-5)

    Learning about good communication, safety in relationships, and growth and development lays a foundation that can support healthy relationships and healthy behaviors throughout a person’s life. This class will focus on age-appropriate and medically accurate topics like puberty, reproduction, consent, and communication skills. This class is for students who identify as male or are non-binary. About the instructor: Jill Farris, MPH, is a LNCS parent and Director of Adolescent Sexual Health Training & Education at the University of Minnesota Healthy Youth Development Prevention Research Center. Jill provides training and capacity building assistance to youth workers in a variety of settings, as well as helping parents have open and honest dialogue with their children. Jill also teaches middle school sexuality education at First Universalist Church of Minneapolis.     Destination Imagination (Grades 2-5)

    Could you rewrite the ending to Three Little Pigs if the Goldilocks enters the story? Could you build a bridge to hold a toy car only made out of paper clips? In Destination Imagination (DI), we'll work together in teams to solve open-ended STEAM challenges designed to teach the creative process. We will have fun, ask questions, think about problems, come up with solutions, learn from failure, and celebrate their achievements. In going through this process, kids learn vital life and career skills—creative thinking, critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving—that help them feel empowered and set them up for success in their future.   • Gym Games with Active Solutions (Grades 2-5)

    Wenonah Physical Education Teacher Mr. Pritchard has taken the best of Physical Education and created an after school Indoor Physical Education class your child will never forget. Your child(ren) will experience 3-4 different activities during each session. Activities include lifelong sport, recreation and fitness, most all individual and team sports, rope jumping, racket games, track and field, kickball, tag games, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, frisbee golf, four square, floor hockey, bowling, volleyball, lord of the rings, pin guard, tangle town, mini mighty stations, pits and allies, Danish baseball and many others. Walking field trips may include hiking along Minneapolis Parks trails to Lake Nokomis. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Lessons are designed to keep kids engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. *Note--sliding scale fees: Course fees are necessary to ensure the sustainability of high-quality afterschool enrichment programs.     This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Mr. Cam will engage students in activities such as ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, tag games, kickball, four square, floor hockey, bowling, and much more. Students will keep heart rates elevated while building character, cooperative skills, individual success and confidence. *Note--sliding scale fees: Course fees are necessary to ensure the sustainability of high-quality afterschool enrichment programs.     Once Upon a Time... with Climb Theater (Grades 2-5)

    Imagine what the collective creativity of a room full of young people might develop when tasked with collaboratively creating a play? In this class, students are led through visual arts, movement, and other arts entry points with the end goal of creating an imaginative show that’s all their own. Participants will explore the magic of theater through theater games, acting exercises, and character design. They will have the opportunity to step into the shoes (or, rather, glass slippers) of their favorite fairytale characters, and to create an imaginative show that’s all their own. In the final session the world premiere is staged and performed by CLIMB theatre professional actors (and willing participants from your family). Strong reading or writing skills are not a requirement... only your imagination! Limit 20.     ​Robotic Adventures with Snapology (Grades 2-5)

    We’ve got good news - your child now has a way to learn science, technology, and engineering using the Minecraft® theme to guide them! Snapology’s EPIC Minecraft® class will introduce your learner to exciting and challenging aspects of Minecraft they may not have considered, including turning themselves into a Minecraft® character using LEGO bricks, solving common game problems, and making mobs, petting zoos and mazes around the Minecraft® world both with building materials and in-game.
