In this class you will explore the mechanics of the standard road bike while riding through the urban parks and streets of Minneapolis. Students will have an opportunity to read and learn from informational texts. This class is mostly outdoors, plan accordingly. **MUST wear tennis shoes and helmet while riding. Please bring a water bottle, snack provided. If your child's bike breaks down or will need assistance back to Northrop, you are giving permission for Krystal to transport your child back to Northrop by car.   • Kendama (Grades 3-5)

    Kendama is a growing professional sport in the world with Minneapolis being a hub for some of the best players in the world. Our program merges the fun and excitement of Kendama play with the importance of mindful awareness and emotional regulation. Our program teaches students basic techniques in mindful breathing designed to help reduce stress, anger and anxiety. The program also focuses on helping students practice emotional awareness and growth mindset through journaling, reflection and through play with kendama in a series of progressively harder challenges and games. Students can expect to be active and moving during our class. No prior kendama experience is necessary! Students will receive a Kendama to take home and practice.   • Musical Theater (Grades 1-5)

    Come join your friends in this fantastic theater class! Our teachers are highly trained actors, percussionists, guitarists, pianists, singers and dancers that joined forces to create a program that enhances students’ confidence and allows them to embrace their love for the arts. Reading skills are used during class participation so we ask students are in at least first grade. We work on our dance, singing and acting technique through a series of different exercises and games. There will be a short performance on the last class (Wednesday December 18th) at 5 PM in the gym.     Students will discover all sorts of fun in the ocean in this interdisciplinary class that uses robotics, coding, art and engineering concepts to learn about our underwater friends. Children will too busy exploring the ocean world, building and creating to realize that they are gaining critical social and developmental skills.     Join Ms. Emily and explore different forms of puppetry. While learning about the history of puppets, you will also create and bring your very own puppet to life. Gather your friends and family at the end of the session and perform your hard work. Ms. Emily attends the University of St. Thomas. She was initially a musical theater BFA.     Learn how to play the game of chess from Twin Cities Chess Club instructors who have years of teaching experience. Competitive chess tournaments are scheduled once a year and students can play for real chess trophies! All levels welcome.     It’s time to get your hands dirty and turn on your imagination! Learn basic skills to turn mud into magic. During Clay Class you can dive in hands first to the world of sculpting with clay.
