FAIR Summer Arts Exploration (Grades 9-12): Backstage Basics with the Cowles CenterFAIRWork alongside The Cowles Center’s technical staff for a four-day overview of what it takes to bring a show to life behind the scenes. Students will cover technology and basic operation of lighting, setting up sound gear such as microphones and speakers, working with backdrops and other backstage gear and more! The class will culminate in combining the learned skills into a set-up, “mini-show” and "load-out.” This course is meant to give students a taste of these areas and resources for how they may pursue work or programs for future education.Summer Youth Programs 2022

FAIR Summer Arts Exploration (Grades 9-12): MacPhail Center for Music Beats and DJ-ingFAIRA DJ course that breaks down a few of hip hop’s “golden era” production with today’s DJ equipment. Showing you how to take an idea like a sample or a loop, then using your creativity to craft your own beats using the tools available to DJs and find a new way to have fun or perform. FAIR Summer Arts Exploration (Grades 9-12): Youth in Action! with YWCA Contact PlusFAIRWant to learn how to organize and take action around a social cause you care about? Join Youth in Action! for a 6-week workshop where you will: Learn about past and contemporary social movements. Learn about resistance through Art. Participate in dialogues with and learn from local community organizers and change makers in our communities. Plan your own advocacy project! Youth in Action! meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-3:30pm for 6-weeks (12 sessions). FAIR Summer Arts: From Passion to Profession (Grades 9-12): Digital Arts & Graphic Design BootcampFAIRFrom Passion to Profession: High School Digital Arts & Media Production Bootcamps June 21- August 4 | 12-5pm | Monday-Thursday | Grades 9-12 (no programming June 20 or July 4) Participants will choose a main content area to explore in a 6 week bootcamp-style course. Participants will develop technical skills in their chosen field with a balance of instructional and experiential learning. Throughout the summer, participants will complete assignments and add them to a portfolio of work that can be used on applications for employment and education beyond this summer program. Representatives from content teams will collaborate in smaller teams/committees to complete project and assignments over the summer, so participants will engage in peer-to-peer learning for the other content areas. On the last week of programming (Week 7, August 1-4), we will host a community event to showcase participant achievement. This community event will be centered around a live youth eSports tournament. Participants will apply their technical skills to produce/host this tournament and event (with adult support). We will have participants running a live stream broadcast of the tournament, incorporating overlay graphics created throughout the bootcamps, participants as on air personalities conducting interviews with players and eSportcasting games, and participants coordinating operations for the event. To complement the tournament, we plan to include a small college/career fair comprised of local organizations for youth and their families to explore, as well as college/career readiness workshops, enrichment activities, and networking opportunities.
