FAIR Summer Arts Exploration (Grades 9-12): Backstage Basics with the Cowles CenterFAIRWork alongside The Cowles Center’s technical staff for a four-day overview of what it takes to bring a show to life behind the scenes. Students will cover technology and basic operation of lighting, setting up sound gear such as microphones and speakers, working with backdrops and other backstage gear and more! The class will culminate in combining the learned skills into a set-up, “mini-show” and "load-out.” This course is meant to give students a taste of these areas and resources for how they may pursue work or programs for future education.Summer Youth Programs 2022

FAIR Summer Arts Exploration (Grades 9-12): Modern Dance and ChoreographyFAIRModern dance is a performing art form that began in the early 20th century in America and Europe, when people wanted a new way to perform dance for an audience that wasn't ballet. In this class, we will learn basic dance movements that help to develop flexibility, strength, coordination, and good body alignment. We will then use those movements along with other movement that you may know or be able to think of, to compose your own sequence of dance movement that you will do with a partner or a small group. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for free movement. There will be a performance on the last day of class for classmates, family and friends. In this course, students will learn some fundamental aspects to how to draw better, which ultimately translates into improving any other area of art. The students will focus on one fundamental learning of drawing each week, and then using all of the ideas learned, to create a final drawing the last week. - Sketching + The Basics of Painting have many elements to it that can be overwhelming to any beginner, and in this course, students will learn how to mix paint, color theory, and a little bit about branding. Before the students pick up a paint brush, they will learn some basics to drawing and sketching. The students will then put together all of their knowledge learned to create their final painting.
