    Join us as we learn and use computer aided design (CAD) software to create scale models of the World's Tallest Buildings! We will also study some of the history and architecture around these buildings and fire up the 3D printers to bring some of our models to life!

    A Tapestry of Poetry & Art (Anthony)

    What are your life experiences or social justice issues that inspire you? Each week you will use those emotions, stories, or perspectives through the power of words and spoken poetry. If you had the chance to share your voice with the world through poetry, what would you want to say and why? We will read, write, and perform a tapestry of poetry. As we explore the many different types of poetry and poets students will work on their own writing techniques and performance skills. We will explore themes that encourage students to delve into their own experiences, the power of their voices, and social justice issues. Students will dive into the evolution of spoken word poetry and its cultural and social significance by exploring the works of some of the most inspiring poets and performers. Furthermore, students will showcase their poetry through live performances and an anthology of their poetry and art.

    Advanced Sewing and Fashion Design (Sanford)

    This class is for our advanced sewers who have taken sewing 1. Students will further their understanding of following and creating patterns, get into more complex projects with quilting and clothing fabrication and have open studio time to work on projects they desire. Ms. Michelle will teach this class again and work with students to continue their love of making and sewing! Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests.     Adventures with Mentors (2-5)

    A team of College Y Mentors will be coming weekly to your after school program with a new adventure each week. We will be doing a variety of activities through Y Mentor Adventures Imagination Stations. Each week we will have an opportunity to use our imaginations creating all kinds of fun activities, which could include creating and playing games, travel, nature, music, science, art, and even learning how to grow your brain! It will be super fun using our imaginations together, come join us! There is no fee for this program

    Anime & Origami (3-5)

    Join fellow Anime & Origami fans after school in the Anime Club! Members will connect with like-minded peers and share their favorite shows and characters, talk all things anime, while engaging in weekly origami themes! A 96 page Origami book will be offered to club members, which includes colored papers to be folded. Weekly meetings will discuss currently airing shows, as well as a look back on the fundamental, foundational, and can't miss classics through the history of Anime. In addition, one origami shape will be completed during club discussions to offer students something stimulating to do with their hands, and grow their passion for Origami! $15 materials fee included in addition to class fee for origami supplies. If materials fee needs to be waived, please contact the Community Education Coordinator at Andrew.kallevig@mpls.k12.mn.us In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer full scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining.     Join Anime club and get a chance to practice your freestyle art and meet and spend time with anime lovers. Most importantly, you'll get a chance to explore anime and discuss various themes expressed through the visual medium. We'll be taking a look at some of the most popular animated films, but also at some less heard of series as well. No prior knowledge of anime or Japanese culture needed, just an interest in foreign culture and a willingness to listen and express your opinions.

    Do you love telling stories or recounting events through writing and photography? This is the class for you! Students will work together and independently to create written works and photography to submit to a newspaper that will be shared with the Anthony community.     BIG (Becoming, Inspiring, and Growing) Talks Mentorship program mission is to rejuvenate the city while providing knowledge and examples of manhood while also focusing on the mental health of the young men, which starts in the schools in our community. This program helps young African American men realize their potential and envision life in a positive and productive future.
  • BIPOC Affinity Group (Anthony)

    This is a place for Anthony students who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) to express themselves, share ideas, and support with others. The group will begin by choosing a name and discussing what they’d like the group to be. Topics may include: culture and history, social justice, art and cooking, and building a safe and accepting community of peers & friends. If you are a person of color who wants to connect with others, come check out this new group.

  • Banned Book Club (Sanford)

    Ms. Olsen and a partnership with Hennepin County Library are excited to bring you Banned Book Club. Book bans have been sweeping the nation and what all of these book have in common according to the National Education Association is this: They reflect the diverse experiences of students of all races, of all abilities, of all religions. They open windows in students’ minds, so that we can see—and celebrate—all of us. We will read books that have been banned in other states library's and public schools. Between July 2021 and June 2022, more than 2,500 book bans were enacted in 138 districts in 32 states, resulting in the removal of more than 1,600 titles from school libraries and classrooms that serve roughly 4 million students, according to a report released this week by PEN America. Lets celebrate the freedom to read!

    Basketball workout with Coach Brendan. This class is for athletes who want to take their game to the next level. Develop your footwork, dribbling, shooting, and defense with individual and group basketball drills to push your game to the next level. This class meets for 6 weeks. Monday and Wednesday. No class on Wednesday April 10 (no school).   • Bike & Scoot Adventures (Grades K-1)

    May 28th, 29th, and 30th Wenonah Physical Education Teacher Mr. Pritchard have taken the best of Physical Education and created a after school course your child(ren) will not forget. This biking and scooter class will take place in the Wenonah Gymnasium and outside at the Minneapolis Parks. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Lessons are designed to keep kids engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Please bring: Shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes, sweat pants/sweat shirts and a water bottle. You can drop off you student’s bike or scooter before school on the first day with Mr. Pritchard. If you need a scooter or bike provided please let Mr. Pritchard know. This is a parent pick up/walker program, you must be able to pick your student up at 5:30 pm from the Wenonah gym.

    Bookie Woogie: Literacy with Kia (1-3) (ALC)

    This literacy class with be taught by Kia Britan, one or Seward's Literacy Teachers. The class is designed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students (E1) and will focus on literature with BIPOC characters and by BIPOC authors. There is no fee for this program
  • CLIMB Theatre Drama Club (3-5)

    Program theme: CLIMB’s “Acting with Good V.I.B.E.S” The artist’s tools of voice, imagination, body, exploration, and self-discipline (V.I.B.E.S.) will be sharpened as participants exercise and apply CLIMB’s 5 skill A.R.E.A.S. (Accountability, Resiliency, Empathy, Advocacy, Self-Regulation) through the collaborative process of theatre. Through acting, improvisation, playwriting, and other elements of the theatre-making process, participants will have the opportunity to grow as individual artists while strengthening vital social-emotional skills. When applicable, a sharing and/or demonstration of learning will be developed and shared to a wider audience.

    Chess Club & Games of Strategy (Sanford)

    Chess Club will continue this spring twice a week on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Students are welcome to come and play other exciting table top games that are provided. Magic and Dungeons and Dragon's are also welcome and we have a small group that plays together who are happy to welcome others. Come and sharpen your skills in chess, Magic, D&D and other games of strategy or relax, play and make new friends.

    Design Art with Ceramics (Anthony)

    Students will receive an introduction to handbuilt ceramics, focusing on slab and coil techniques. Students will then use their skills with clay and their skills in engineering to push the limits and build new and unique designs inspired by our world.
