    We invite you to step into a collaborative space and join a transformative movement that honors water knowledge from diverse cultures and sciences. We will navigate the confluence of time-honored wisdom and innovative approaches, deepening our collective understanding, reverence for and stewardship of water across its many forms and functions. We will reconnect with our own relationship to water and water's essential role in sustaining life. Do you want to know more about the water you drink and work with on the land? Are you concerned about the quality of your water? Are you interested in increasing your personal health and hydration? Would you like to learn about the subtle energies and wisdom of water? Would you like to build a healthier relationship with water? Lindsay Rebhan and Paula Westmoreland will facilitate this weekend immersion into the body and spirit of water. During the weekend we will: Explore the latest scientific insights into the beauty and complexity of water. Learn the physical properties of water, watersheds, and the hydrological cycle. Experience guided water walks to local springs and the St Croix River. Uncover your personal water story and examine how your relationship with water influences your overall well being. Learn optimal ways to hydrate your body for increased health and mental clarity. Compare, test and observe differences between tap water, filtered water, and wild water. Recognize that like food, water quality varies significantly. Practice methods for filtering and structuring water to enhance its vitality and life-supporting properties. Create your personalized water plan with practical strategies to implement in daily life beyond the weekend. Water stories, water poems, water blessings, water play, and reflection time will be integrated into the experience. Saturday evening is a 'Celebration of Water', a time for participants to gather, process and engage with music and story facilitated by Ben Weaver. Ben is a father, poet, songwriter, and community builder. His music also provides the soundtrack for the weekend immersion. Our meeting place is The Stables, a renovated space that was the home of Horst Rechelbacher and Kiran Stordalen, founders of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients. The Food: You will be nourished with food from local regenerative farms prepared by a personal chef. There will be an open kitchen with snacks and warm and cold beverages. A light breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served on Saturday and a full breakfast on Sunday.   • Historic Nicollet Island Walking Tour (Southwest)

    Nicollet Island may be most widely known as home to the Grain Belt Beer sign, re-lit in 2017. But the island's greatest claim to fame is as the site of the first bridge anywhere to cross the Mississippi River, in 1865. The following year, a referendum that would have made the island a public park failed. Instead the island developed as a microcosm of the city, with its own industrial, commercial and residential zones. Then in the 1970s and 1980s, the city succeeded in making much of the island into parkland after all. The tour takes in the entire 40-acre island, from the south tip overlooking St. Anthony Falls to the intact 19th century neighborhood at the north tip. Meet at . NOTE: This tour is @ 1 mile.   • Historic Tangletown & Minnehaha Creek Walking Tour (Southwest)

    Join neighborhood historian Tom Balcom as we explore the winding streets, impressive homes, and creek environment of the neighborhood originally known as Washburn Park. Learn about landmark sites such as the Washburn Water Tower, the Harry Wild Jones House, Washburn Memorial Orphan Asylum (where Justice Alan Page Middle School now stands), and the Minnehaha Creek, parkway, bridges, woods, and trails. The start and end of the tour is the Washburn Library at 53rd and Lyndale. Parking is available on 53rd Street just south of the library.   • Horseback Riding at Lebanon Hills (Southwest):

    Explore the trails of scenic Lebanon Hills by horseback! We'll have an opportunity to brush and saddle horses, before the ride. Once everyone is up and comfortable on their horse, there will be a little bit of instruction, and then we'll head out on the trail. We'll enjoy a leisurely ride through restored prairies, cedar stands and past a lake. Once back at the trail head, we'll help take care of horses and share some treats with them. No experience needed. Weight Limit of 200#. 4 riders per session.   • Kayaking: Exploring the Gorge and Lock 1 with Paddle Bridge and Friends of the Mississippi (Southwest)

    This trip meets at Hidden Falls Regional Park before shuttling up to our launch point at Bohemian Flats Park. Once there, our experienced guides will give a short safety and paddling demo before setting off with you on a 6.5-mile journey through the beautiful Mississippi River Gorge. The Gorge: a canyon-like stretch of river with 150-foot-high sandstone cliffs, carved out over 11,000 years by the same waterfall that landed Minneapolis on the map! Before the end, you will descend through Lock and Dam Number 1, the largest active lock on the whole river. A quick-flowing mile later, we’ll get off the river at Hidden Falls Regional Park. **What to bring:** - Dress for water! Wear lightweight clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting wet - hot tip, have a dry layer in your car to change into after just in case. - Hats and sunglasses for the glare off the water - Sunscreen/Water bottle - guides should have extra, but we encourage use of a reusable water bottle to lessen reliance on single-use plastics. - Snacks for your guide - just kidding, but never a bad idea for yourself.     A special Cave Tour that focuses on the Haunted events that still occurs at the caves. Recently declared as Winner of the Most Haunted Place in Minnesota by Star Tribune. The tour guide will be a haunted character, but the tour is not intended to be frightening. It all started during the 1930's with the unsolved gangland murder at the casino. Some believe the caves are haunted by the murdered mobsters whose bodies were never found. Haunted happenings have taken place ever since. We have so many stories, we can’t fit them into 1 hour. We have selected our best stories and conclude the tour with a slide show! Bring your cameras. Caves are handicap accessible with ramps and bathrooms. Please arrive by 3:15 pm.     Walk on the Wild Side With Maud in the footsteps of beloved Minnesota children's author Maud Hart Lovelace with local historian, Kathy Kullberg. From 1911 to the late 1920's Lovelace enjoyed living in Minneapolis' Lowry Hill East neighborhood with her family and friends close by. These relationships and places became the basis for many of the characters and references in Betsy's Wedding, the last book in the Betsy-Tacy series. Beginning at Mueller Park, the walk will encompass about three blocks and feature the sites and stories related to the Hart and Lovelace families.     Creation of Minnehaha Falls, the Dakotas, explorers, soldiers, tourists, celebrities, neighbors, poets, millers, politicians, celebrants, artists, musicians, wild animals, carnivals, children, Scandinavians, foodies, churches, activists, governors, runners, a hermit and even more will be revealed on this ¾ mile walk through Minnehaha Falls Park. Maureen Trepp, long time resident and Mpls. historian, will share the history of the land, culture, and people who have lived in and enjoyed this unique and much visited public park. Group will meet at the bridge over the top of Minnehaha Falls at 6:00 for a 1 ½ hour tour. There are 2 Blue light rail line stops near the park and parking in a pay lot on the north end of the park.     Cruise the Mighty Mississippi River from St. Paul toward Minneapolis and back past downtown St. Paul to Inver Grove Heights aboard the 80-foot Magnolia Blossom paddleboat. Both inside and outside seating is available. Spend the evening relaxing and listening to stories about the local Mississippi River’s history, geology and natural wonders. Travel up the Mississippi past Fort Snelling, Mendota,Hidden Falls and Minnehaha Park. Travel down river to see and hear tails of Pike Island, Crosby Nature Center and historic bridges. DAKOTA NAME FOR STRING OR CORDAGE: Wikan [WEE-KAHN]… derived from the root words for ‘sun’ and ‘braid’. DAKOTA WORD FOR WEAVING: Opazan (to weave something) Not so very long ago, in the Dakota homelands of Imnizaska (St Paul), Sisseton Tribal people relied on our knowledge of and ancestral relationships with native plants - including stinging nettle, bulrush, cattail, willow, basswood, cedar, ash, elm, and spruce root - to create cordage, rope, nets, woven textiles, and shelter. Please join us for a learning journey of reconnecting with our plant relatives. All participants will learn about Dakota weaving plants and traditions, how to twine fibers into cordage, and how to apply what you learned to exploring oth local plant fibers. Fern is a 2022-2023 Native Artist in Residence at the Minnesota Historical Society, where she has been researching the role of nettles in Dakota material culture. Fern Naomi Renville is a storyteller, artist, playwright, and enrolled citizen of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. Meet at the Phalen Park Picnic Pavilion located at 1600 Phalen Dr, St Paul, MN 55106. Join us for a cruise on board the Magnolia Blossom Riverboat with Dakota guide Fern Renville and her cousin J.Garrett Renville,Tribal Chairman for Sisseton Wahpeton on the Lake Traverse Reservation. This is an incredibly moving and meaningful project for the Renville family and Tribe. Fern and Garrett will be sharing their stories, history, and hopes for the future. We will enjoy a delicious Indigenous lunch at Gatherings Café followed by a tour of Creation.Story, the current exhibition at All My Relations Arts. Marlena is one of the artists featured in this exhibition. More about this exhibition: All My Relations Arts and the Native American Community Development Institute are pleased to present Creation.Story, a group exhibition by originators Keith BraveHeart and David Meyer (Akta Lakota Museum). Creation.Story is an art exhibition that centers on the significance of creative expressions and oral traditions amongst Očhéthi Šakówiŋ cultures. Multiple artists representing their Očhéthi Šakówiŋ heritage provide visual artworks and creative concepts to engage audiences with the expansive creation narratives that underlie Očhéthi Šakówiŋ identity and values. The Creation.Story exhibition incorporates the art of multiple visual artists to engage audiences with the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ oral traditions. This exhibition encourages inclusive dialogue that celebrates and rediscovers creation stories as they exist for those who carry them forward. A creation story is a sacred depiction that gives a narrative to the beginnings of time and the formation of a world. Over time, the sharing of these narratives becomes oral traditions and often grows into various versions that demonstrate the creativity of the storyteller. Creation.Story is a traveling exhibition co-curated by Keith BraveHeart and David Meyer (Akta Lakota Museum). In addition to the original curators, each venue works with roster artists as co-curators for their location. Jaida Grey Eagle, Kylie Wanatee-Thunderhawk, and Mikayla Patton are the co-curators working with All My Relations. This exhibition has previously been shown at the Akta Lakota Museum (Chamberlain, SD), The Heritage Center (Pine Ridge, SD), The Dahl Arts Center (Rapid City, SD), and the South Dakota Art Museum (Brookings, SD). As we navigate the mighty waters of the Mississippi River, our journey will help others see the river through Dakota eyes. From ancient legends to pivotal moments in history, the boat becomes a floating classroom where captivating stories come to life. We will return to shore with new understandings of the harmony between the Dakota people and the rivers and lands they call home.
