Untangle the web of information about how smartphones are made and the history behind app development. Dial in with tools and tips to take more control of your digital usage.
(Two Parts)
The first class brings critical awareness to our phones by answering these questions: where do the materials for our smart phones come from? Where does the data generated by my phone go, who has access to this, and why? How were certain apps designed and why?
The second class is structured like a workshop and intended to provide tools that can help us take more control over our digital usage. This involves collectively brainstorming strategies to bring more mindfulness to our everyday relationships with smart phones. I introduce strategies developed in the Log Off Movement and provide a brief introduction to some of the legal and regulatory measures currently being debated to curb the harmful effects of social media.
