Black Affinity Group (3-5) Wednesday

After School Youth Classes / Marcy -
After School Youth Enrichment Fall 2025

This course is designed for African-descended students in 3rd grade through 5th grade in a multicultural environment, as part of the Black Affinity Group. Through 10 interactive sessions, students will explore the history of civil rights in the United States, with a special focus on the fight for social justice led by African-American figures. Students will engage in dynamic activities such as role-plays, poster creation, games, music, and discussions that foster understanding of equity, rights, and the power of community leadership.

The course will culminate with a school assembly in honor of Black History Month, where students will present what they have learned through songs, poems, and creative projects that celebrate the accomplishments and struggles of African-American leaders for justice and civil rights.

Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests. When families participate at the higher price levels, they help make the program more sustainable. Extended Learning (ALC) classes are free.
