Cruise with Friends of the Mississippi - Sept 17 (Southwest)

Adult Enrichment / Trips, Tours & Special Events -
Adult Enrichment Summer 2025

Join us on the river with Colleen O'Connor Toberman, Land Use & Planning Program Director for Friends of the Mississippi.

On this boat cruise, you'll enjoy autumn views of the Mississippi River's only gorge while learning about how we engineered the locks and dams to tame the river for industry. Is it time to change our vision for the future? Studies are underway right now to consider changing or removing the dams. This tour will cover the history, current state, and complex future possibilities for our metro Mississippi. River conditions permitting, our boat will travel up and down through Lock and Dam 1.

Meet at the Watergate Marina, 2500 Crosby Farm Road, Saint Paul Minnesota, 55116. Crosby Farm Road is at the intersection of Shepherd Road and Gannon Road.

Transportation to the Watergate Marina is on your own.

Beverages will be available to purchase on board the boat. You may bring your own food.

 Ages 21+.

If the cruise is sold out, please add your name to the waitist. We will let you know if tickets become available.

Friends of the Mississippi

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Colleen O’Connor Toberman, Land Use & Planning Program Director:
Colleen works to ensure that the natural, scenic, cultural, historical, recreational and public values of the Mississippi River corridor are understood, protected, enhanced and celebrated. This includes working with community and public-sector partners to develop land-use policies, advocate for parks and public access and guide riverfront development.

Maddie Miller, Grassroots Organizer:

Maddie works with community members to help them take action on Mississippi River policy issues that matter to them. Through equipping residents with knowledge and resources and building grassroots power, Maddie helps community advocates influence federal, state and local governments on a range of environmental policy issues including water quality, agriculture, protection of parks and open space, riverfront development, Twin Cities locks and dams and more.
