ALC: GEMS & GISE Lego Robotics (1-3) Mondays & Wednesdays

After School Youth Classes / Marcy -
After School Youth Enrichment Fall 2025

Where creativity meets technology! In this innovative program, your child will design, build, and program their own Lego robots, learning the basics of engineering and coding. It’s a thrilling introduction to STEM that will spark curiosity and inspire future inventors. Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite your child to participate in Afterschool Programming at Marcy Elementary School. Programming this year will focus on GEMS and GISE Lego Robotics Stem Academy (specific topic below). Space is limited so register as soon as possible for priority consideration! Enroll today and watch them create the future!

Must attend both days!

Fall/Winter 2025- Robotics - In this exciting robotics class students learn mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. In pairs, using LEGO building elements, motors, and sensors, students build different robot prototypes and program them with a computer to move, react, and make sounds. Students will utilize their prototypes and programming to solve design challenges using the LEGO We Do 2.0, EV3 or the Lego Spike Prime Robotic Systems. District Robotics Exhibition on Marcy's Academic Night.

Spring 2026 - Robotics (theme TBD) - In these engaging and investigative classes students are immersed in the fundamentals of energy, electricity, and electronics. Students explore energy sources, examine energy basics (energy measured, converted, and transferred) and the future of energy including conservation and alternatives through an interactive problem based approach. Students conduct hands-on investigations into the properties of electricity – currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and static electricity. Students work and learn through exciting, project-based electronics experiments utilizing circuit boards and electronic components for circuit construction, testing, and troubleshooting.

Fall Session, 10/06/25 - 12/17/25,

Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests. When families participate at the higher price levels, they help make the program more sustainable. Extended Learning (ALC) classes are free.
