Turn the lights on, pull the curtain up! Learn the proper ways to move and speak on stage. Use popular shows like Wicked or Hairspray for inspiration as you write your own show, select costumes and props, and perform on the last day of class. Join Field Mice "Broadway, Here We Come!" and let your child's voice be heard! In this joyful afterschool program, students will learn the basics of singing, dancing, and performing as a group. Our afterschool teachers will share their theater expertise with songs and games that inspire and excite. Kids will develop confidence, theater skills, and lasting friendships. Students will write and perform a show together. This class is perfect for all young performers—no experience needed, just a love for theater, music, and a spirit of fun. Not all students are required to perform; some students are more drawn to backstage elements like tech, crew, lights, costume, design, props, set, stage managing, and more. We will explore a variety of theater aspects together. Let’s make some art for the stage together! We will plan to have a final showcase on the last day of the session. Families will be invited to come see their student perform and enjoy light snacks and refreshments. We'll see you afterschool. :)

In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. The actual cost of the class is the first listed however, families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer full scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining. Thank you for your consideration as you sign up for youth programs!
