    Ms. Rhonda Lund is back at Sanford in After-school running Acting, Drama and Skits! Students learn simple acting techniques and vocabulary through studying monologues and scenes. They will then begin basic script analysis and character development and apply these principles towards in-class performances. Students will write their own play and perform! Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable.     Brickheads Lego Club is led again this year by Ms. Nies. Join with your friends or make new friends and spend your Thursday afternoons competing in Lego challenges! If you love Lego's this club is for you! This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.

    This class is for students of all sewing abilities. Students will learn to dream up clothing designs, create the pattern, and put it all together. Ms. Michelle is an educator, community artist and former fashion designer.     Join us for an after-school program that mixes real life skills with real fun! This isn't your typical program. Think basketball, arts & crafts, team challenges, and creative activities that keep you moving while learning. We will cover topics that matter like friendship, confidence, communication and healthy choices, all in a safe and supportive space. Come and hang out, build new skills and discover how to handle life's challenges while having fun. This group is led by YWCA Contact Plus and is paid for by a grant.

    Sanford is proud a Unified School! Join us on Thursdays and create with clay! We will use air dry clay, polymer clay, model magic and make our own. This club is open to all students of all abilities. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding and a partnership with Special Olympics of Minnesota. Special Olympics Unified Schools is an education and sports based strategy powered by an engaged student community that increases athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. It is a strategy to activate youth, engage educators, and promote school communities of acceptance and inclusion where all young people are agents of change. The three components of Unified Schools include Inclusive Youth Leadership, Unified Sports, and Whole School Engagement. All three areas are crucial to shift the culture of a school towards inclusion. 1. Inclusive Youth Leadership: An opportunity for youth voices to be heard through engaging together with meaningful relationships. 2. Unified Sports: A combination of special education students and general education students that participate in inclusive sporting opportunities. 3. Whole School Engagement: Bullying prevention and inclusive promotion initiatives that reach entire school populations through engaging, inspiring and optimistic events.

In this class, we will experiment with a wide range of materials as a way to play with color, moods, stories and senses. Every week, there is a different activity offered, each designed to be adaptable to a range of abilities. All of the materials needed for each activity will be provided.     Design Teacher Mx. Carlson, brings you this fun and techy after-school club built for students who love to fix, tinker and play. Students will learn to repair phones, take small machines apart and figure out how to put them back together, learn and use 3D printers and more!     Girls Inc. is for youth who identify as "girl" or "gender-expansion" who are interested in a "pro-girl" environment. Girls, Inc has girls creating change in their community and learning from women leaders. Students learn how to save, share and spend money, explore what it means to have a safe body and mind, do fun science experiments like making slime and bath bombs, free snacks and earn a t-shirt. Girls, Inc ends with a party that is planned by you! This is a grant funded club that is $0 for participants.

    Mystery Book Club (Sanford)

    Do you enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers? Our Mystery Book Club is led by Ms. Olsen on Tuesdays. Students will vote on the book, read together and have in depth discussions on the subject matter. This is a laid back group that enjoys reading, chatting and having fun. The first book was voted on last year and will be The Lake by Natasha Preston. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.

    Ms. Penke will lead PRIDE/S.A.G.E again this year. S.A.G.E. stands for social and gender equity. The foundation of S.A.G.E focuses on civics education, community service, and social activism. The curriculum is inclusive and reflects everyone. This affinity group is for students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ Community and their allies. This is a non judgmental safe space to share, connect and have fun doing walking field trips, arts and crafts and more!     By popular demand we are excited to offer The Cook Up, Cooking Club! In this club students will learn how to follow simple recipes using fresh ingredients, toaster ovens, air fryers, induction burners and electric skillets.     The Minnesota Urban Debate League (MNUDL) is a program of Augsburg University which provides resources and programming to support competitive academic debate in Twin Cities high schools and middle schools. The mission of MNUDL is to empower students through competitive academic debate to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active global citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. Sanford's Urban Debate Team historically has excelled in tournaments. Ms. Rhonda Lund has been leading the team for many years and will be back at Sanford this fall to continue to work with our team!
