    Ms. Rhonda Lund is back at Sanford in After-school running Acting, Drama and Skits! Students learn simple acting techniques and vocabulary through studying monologues and scenes. They will then begin basic script analysis and character development and apply these principles towards in-class performances. Students will write their own play and perform! Note: Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests.     Brickheads Lego Club (Sanford)

    Brickheads Lego Club is led again this year by Ms. Nies. Join with your friends or make new friends and spend your Thursday afternoons competing in Lego challenges! If you love Lego's this club is for you! This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.
  • Create with Clay - Unified (Sanford)

    Sanford is proud a Unified School! Join us on Thursdays and create with clay! We will use air dry clay, polymer clay, model magic and make our own. This club is open to all students of all abilities. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding and a partnership with Special Olympics of Minnesota. Special Olympics Unified Schools is an education and sports based strategy powered by an engaged student community that increases athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. It is a strategy to activate youth, engage educators, and promote school communities of acceptance and inclusion where all young people are agents of change. The three components of Unified Schools include Inclusive Youth Leadership, Unified Sports, and Whole School Engagement. All three areas are crucial to shift the culture of a school towards inclusion. 1. Inclusive Youth Leadership: An opportunity for youth voices to be heard through engaging together with meaningful relationships. 2. Unified Sports: A combination of special education students and general education students that participate in inclusive sporting opportunities. 3. Whole School Engagement: Bullying prevention and inclusive promotion initiatives that reach entire school populations through engaging, inspiring and optimistic events.

    D&D is led by Mr. Beck! Come and play with friends and classmates. You'll work to organize a group, make a plan and play tournaments. This is a popular club with many players so all are welcome. All skill levels are also welcome! This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.
  • Girls, Inc YWCA (Sanford)

    Girls Inc. is for youth who identify as "girl" or "gender-expansion" who are interested in a "pro-girl" environment. Girls, Inc has girls creating change in their community and learning from women leaders. Students learn how to save, share and spend money, explore what it means to have a safe body and mind, do fun science experiments like making slime and bath bombs, free snacks and earn a t-shirt. Girls, Inc ends with a party that is planned by you! This is a grant funded club that is $0 for participants.

    Ms. Monroe and Ms. Pilon will lead our History Day Club and work with students to dive deeper into History Day projects for 7th grade competition. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.

    Mystery Book Club (Sanford)

    Do you enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers? Our Mystery Book Club is led by Ms. Olsen on Tuesdays. Students will vote on the book, read together and have in depth discussions on the subject matter. This is a laid back group that enjoys reading, chatting and having fun. The first book was voted on last year and will be The Lake by Natasha Preston. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding.

    Open Gym - Unified (Sanford)

    Ms. Penke will lead PRIDE/S.A.G.E again this year. S.A.G.E. stands for social and gender equity. The foundation of S.A.G.E focuses on civics education, community service, and social activism. The curriculum is inclusive and reflects everyone. This affinity group is for students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ Community and their allies. This is a non judgmental safe space to share, connect and have fun doing walking field trips, arts and crafts and more! This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class that partners with MPS Out 4 Good and YWCA Connect Plus.

    Auditions are over. All students will be placed on the waitlist. Only students who were notified by Project Success that they are in the cast will participate in the musical and enrollment will be added and fees paid at that time. Project Success - Rebellion is nigh in Matilda The Musical JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the “revolting children” who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson. Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence… and special powers! She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!     Sew It Begins, learn to sew (Sanford)

    This class is for students who have little to no experience working with a sewing machine. Students will learn to follow and create patterns, make stuffed animals, patchwork bags and even clothing. Ms. Michelle is an educator, community artist and former fashion designer.     Sketching and Drawing (Sanford)

    This club is run by Mr. J (Sanford SEA) and is for students who want time and space to work on sketching nature and landscapes outdoors (weather permitting) or working on their drawing skills. All students will receive an artist sketchbook and have access to drawing pens, drawing pencils, oil pastels, chalk pastels and charcoal.     This class is for students who have taken sewing before or are proficient in sewing with a machine. Come to Stitch Lab and make clothes, bags, quilts, zipper bags, stuffies and whatever else you can dream up!     The Cook Up! (Sanford)

    By popular demand we are excited to offer The Cook Up, Cooking Club! In this club students will learn how to follow simple recipes using fresh ingredients, toaster ovens, air fryers, induction burners and electric skillets. This is sure to be a really fun class with lots of snacks and treats to enjoy! Note: This is an Extended Learning Academic Class and paid for by state and federal dollars.

  • Urban Debate League (Sanford)

    The Minnesota Urban Debate League (MNUDL) is a program of Augsburg University which provides resources and programming to support competitive academic debate in Twin Cities high schools and middle schools. The mission of MNUDL is to empower students through competitive academic debate to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active global citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. Sanford's Urban Debate Team historically has excelled in tournaments. Ms. Rhonda Lund has been leading the team for many years and will be back at Sanford this fall to continue to work with our team! No experience is necessary. You will learn all the skills you need to be successful.
