  • Intro to Canvas Painting (North)

    This class is an beginner level introduction to Painting on Canvas. Participants will explore their inner artist and learn techniques for working with paint on canvas.
  • Introduction to Glass Blowing (Ella Baker)

    This class is great for beginners with or without any experience! The student will learn safety fundamentals, tool and torch usage, solid rod welding and gathering, color application, shaping, and more. Students will be able to create small trinkets, marbles, paper weights, plant rods, or anything else that can be thought of with the skills learned. Class Policies: Please arrive at your scheduled class a few minutes early to fill out applicable paperwork and receive assigned safety glasses. Liability waivers and emergency contact forms must be filled out in order to participate in class. These forms will be provided upon arrival, prior to your scheduled class. Requirements: No sandals or open footwear - shoes must have closed toes and heels No loose sleeves or long dangling necklaces/bracelets Long hair must be tied back Please come to class fed and hydrated - standing is required for the duration of class for optimal safety. [A chair may be provided if needed for medical reasons] Recommendations: Cotton or natural fiber clothing recommended (It’s best to avoid synthetic clothing as it could melt in the case of an accident) It is highly recommended that you bring water to drink Free street parking will be available to all students in the front of the building. There is typically ample parking available on our block. If a student arrives to class inebriated they will be asked to leave, for safety purposes. Students will not receive a refund in this case.

In this immersive dining experience and cooking demonstration, guests will have the opportunity to explore the taste, smell, and style of food reminiscent of SE Asia; a culinary adventure transporting guests across oceans and continents alike. This experience will feature a 3-course menu composed of four small plates, four entrees, and dessert that will be shared family style at the table, emblematic of the dining style most popular in SE Asia. Chef Ann will also be leading a cooking demonstration of one of the entrees and sharing her chef tips and tricks as well as her own personal culinary journey.     Line Dancing (Southwest)

    Line dancing is individuals dancing in unison to predetermined music in predetermined patterns. Individuals will not dance with a partner, nor have physical contact with other dancers.     Insomniacs and bicycling lovers unite. Enjoy a 42- or 28-mile ride through the metro on the "Midsummer's Night Dream-of-a-Ride." Make a stop at late-night shops like Mel-O-Glaze Bakery on your way to the sunrise finish and gourmet breakfast. Registration by July 1. Cost includes breakfast and t-shirt.   • Minnehaha Falls Walking Tour (Southwest)

    Creation of Minnehaha Falls, the Dakotas, explorers, soldiers, tourists, celebrities, neighbors, poets, millers, politicians, celebrants, artists, musicians, wild animals, carnivals, children, Scandinavians, foodies, churches, activists, governors, runners, a hermit and even more will be revealed on this ¾ mile walk through Minnehaha Falls Park. Maureen Trepp, long time resident and Mpls. historian, will share the history of the land, culture, and people who have lived in and enjoyed this unique and much visited public park. Group will meet at the bridge over the top of Minnehaha Falls at 6:30 for a 1 ½ hour tour. There are 2 Blue light rail line stops near the park and parking in a pay lot on the north end of the park.   • Mushroom Hunting for Beginners (Southwest)

    Discover the world of mushrooms in this 3-hour hands-on beginner mushroom hunting hike with Ironwood Foraging Co. Lead Guide, Tim Clemens. You'll learn how to find and safely identify edible wild mushrooms. Mushroom hunting equipment, mushroom identification skills, fungal biology, mushroom recipes, and resources to continue your learning will all be covered. Location is within one hour of Minneapolis and will be emailed to attendees prior to the workshop. Walking distance ~1-3 miles. NOTE: Location is within one hour of Minneapolis. If we go to a State Park, that there will be an additional $7 Daily/$35 annual vehicle entry permit needed that can be purchased at the State Park entrance office.     Introduction to Dakota Weaving Plants With Fern Naomi Renville (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, Omaha, Seneca Cayuga) ENGLISH NAME: Common Stinging Nettle / Urtica Dioica SISSETON DAKOTA NAME: Hosbe [hosh-BAY] OTHER DAKOTA NAMES FOR UTICA DIOICA: Chanicahpehu and pazipa are two other names for nettle used by Dakota communities. DAKOTA NAME FOR STRING OR CORDAGE: Wikan [WEE-KAHN]… derived from the root words for ‘sun’ and ‘braid’. DAKOTA WORD FOR WEAVING: Opazan (to weave something) Not so very long ago, in the Dakota homelands of Imnizaska (St Paul), Sisseton Tribal people relied on our knowledge of and ancestral relationships with native plants - including stinging nettle, bulrush, cattail, willow, basswood, cedar, ash, elm, and spruce root - to create cordage, rope, nets, woven textiles, and shelter. Please join us for a learning journey of reconnecting with our plant relatives. All participants will learn about Dakota weaving plants and traditions, how to twine fibers into cordage, and how to apply what you learned to exploring oth local plant fibers. Fern is a 2022-2023 Native Artist in Residence at the Minnesota Historical Society, where she has been researching the role of nettles in Dakota material culture. Fern Naomi Renville is a storyteller, artist, playwright, and enrolled citizen of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate.
