  • First Adventures: Intro to Theatre (Gr. PreK-K)

    Enjoy a variety of intro-level games and activities that will teach you how to move around a theater's stage, practice reciting lines and shine as a performer under the bright lights. We want to ensure that our youngest participants have the supports they need to be successful. Caregivers of children who will be 4 on the date this class starts but younger than 4 years, 6 months, please email our Inclusion Specialist, Devin.Nelson@mpls.k12.mn.us prior to enrolling.   • Performing Arts: Comedy Sketches & Improvisation (Entering Grades 6-9)

    Write and perform laugh-out-loud comedy sketches from observing everyday life, just like they do on Saturday Night Live. Fine-tune the art of improv acting by playing popular games and wrap up the week with an improv showcase. To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as a discounted option and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, most class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer additional financial assistance upon request.     Broadway Cabaret (Entering Gr. 4-6)

    All your Broadway favorites packed into one week! Learn a short scene, a song, and dance from a different musical each day, and have a performance for friends/family on the final day! Come ready to move! Register your child for a morning class and an afternoon class and we will provide lunch and supervision free of charge from 12-1 pm. When signing up for the morning class, you will be able to choose the option “Stay for free lunch and recess from 12:00 – 1:00 pm” as you complete your registration. To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education offers fees on a sliding scale.   • "White Christmas - The Musical" at Chanhassen Dinner Theater (Southwest)

    Join us at Chanhassen Dinner Theater for the matinee of Irving Berlin's classic holiday show "White Chrismas". Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting, wholesome musical that will delight audiences of all ages.   • Bus Tour - Thoreau in Wild Minnesota with Jim Walsh (Southwest)

    In the spring of 1861, writer/philosopher/poet/naturalist Henry David Thoreau traveled to Minnesota for the first and only time. Seven years prior, Thoreau published his landmark book “Walden,” which championed nature, the woods, and the act of staring at a body of water for internal and spiritual self-awareness. The next year, Thoreau would die from his lifelong bout with tuberculosis, at 44 years old. Other than botanical notes, Thoreau never had a chance to write about his Minnesota visit. What would he have had to say about our great lakes and big river?
