Driver's Education Classroom Training (Roosevelt)

Driver's Education-Teens -
Youth & Family Spring 2026

Dear Roosevelt Families,

Roosevelt Drivers Ed registration has moved to a lottery system with the hope of creating a more equitable distribution of the 30 spots in our Drivers Ed classes. Parents/guardians/students will have two weeks to join the waiting list. Once the registration window closes, 30 students will be selected at random and moved into the class. Selected students and parent/guardians will be notified via email and payments will be processed at that time. Students who are not selected will remain on the waiting list and contacted only if a spot becomes available.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION:

The Spring 2026 Session of Drivers Ed at Roosevelt:

Class will meet April 27th-May 8th, from 3:20-6:20pm (Monday-Friday afternoons for two weeks) at Roosevelt High School.

Registration Window: This class will be available for registration online between Monday, March 9th and Friday, March 20th. To register, parents/guardians need to create an account/profile and then add the student's information. The Roosevelt class will appear “full” but it’s not… we are requiring everyone to join the waiting list first, and we will select 30 students at random once the registration window has closed. You must join the waitlist with a valid method of payment: either card or back account information. Payment will not be collected until the student is placed into the class. Students and parent/guardians will be notified via email if they have been selected the week of March 23rd, 2026, the remaining students will stay on the waiting list and will be notified only if a spot becomes available. Waiting lists do NOT carry over to the next session, you will need to re-apply.

Drop-In Registration Assistance: If you need help completing your online registration, you may drop by our office during the following days and times, and we can help get you signed up:

Driver’s Education Classroom Instruction

Receive State-required classroom instruction to prepare you for your permit test. Minnesota State Law requires students to be present during all 30 hours of classroom training, no make-up dates available. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a digital certification of completion (yellow card). Once your classroom portion with Community Education is over, you must arrange, schedule, and pay for Behind-the-Wheel Training separately with your choice of provider. Cost for Behind-the-Wheel Training is not included in the cost of this classroom instruction. Expect to pay $350+. Drivers between the ages of fifteen and eighteen wishing to take their instructional permit test have to show proof of enrollment in six hours of Behind-the-Wheel Training. This proof of enrollment is commonly referred to as a blue card. Many of the classroom instructors Minneapolis Community Education contracts also provide Behind-the-Wheel Training through their own agency and they are able to share that information with students. Students are not required to take Behind-the-Wheel Training with their classroom instructor. Minneapolis Community Education makes no recommendation for providers of Behind-the-Wheel Training but can give contact information to families of specific providers upon request.

Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Participants are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests. When participants sign up at the higher price levels, they help make the program more sustainable. Regardless of the price you choose, the instruction, content and quality remain the same.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Drivers Ed! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
