    7th/8th Grade Jazz Band-ALC (Anthony)

    Students seeking more opportunities to play band instruments in an ensemble can do so while getting an introduction to the exciting world of jazz! Students will learn about the history of the music, the development of jazz rhythm and chord structures, and will learn and practice improvisation! This course is open to students who have two or more years playing experience on the instrument. *Note all classes for ALC are free. The optional fee is for snack.     Anthony Newspaper -ALC

    Catch the Buzz! This course is an opportunity for students to put their own mark on the wildly popular Anthony Newspaper “The Buzz”! Students will practice writing, editing, formatting, printing and distributing their very own newspaper. Anyone with an interest in sharing their creativity with our school should join! Students in this course are also invited to participate in the Minneapolis Book Review program where students can get paid to read and review books! *Note all classes for ALC are free.     Adventure in Baking, come have fun while learning how to prepared delicious meals. You will learn how to meal prep, creative ways to bake for future meals for yourself, family and friends.

    GEMS/GISE/STEM-ALC (Anthony)

    Students will design, build, and program lego robots to complete missions and compete in the First Lego League competition! Our award winning program is open to beginners and experienced FLL students alike, regardless of grade level! If you have an interest in engineering, this is the program for you! *Note all classes for ALC are free. The optional fee is for snacks.     Gender and Sexuality Alliance - Open to LGBTQIA+ students and Allies alike, students in this group will have opportunities to share their experiences with other classmates, learn more about LGBTQIA+ history, and work to positively impact our school culture and community!     History Day (Anthony)

    "On select days in January and February students will have the opportunity to come spend extra time working on their History Day projects. Mr. Olson will be running this and it is open to all 7th graders. This is a unique after school "class" in that you are not signing up for every day of the class but signing up for the opportunity to come as needed. Individual daily sign ups will be in Mr. Olson's room and will be limited to the first 30 students that sign up. Come to do extra research, have extra time to work with your partner or partners, or to get feedback or help from Mr. Olson. Use the time in the way that is best for you!"
  • Knowledge Bowl -ALC (Anthony)

    Do you love trivia?! Join our award winning Knowledge Bowl team! In this fun competition, students will hone their skills in quick recall and written competitions, sharing their knowledge in math, literature, history, science, current events, and everything in between! Students will also compete directly with other middle school students in three after-school meets around the Twin Cities - one in December, one in January, and one in February! *Note all classes for ALC are free.     Students with a love of learning and an interest in studying mathematics at a deeper level will love this opportunity to compete in the Minnesota Junior High Math League in the fall, and the National MATHCOUNTS competition in the spring.     Numbernasium-ALC (Anthony)

    A new after school class where you can work on iReady My Path surrounded by your peers and with a teacher available to ask questions. This is NOT a class to work on homework from your math class, but it IS a class where you can build foundational skills that you may need to practice, or stretch your understanding beyond your math class! This class is free and will be available Monday - Thursday. Once you’ve registered, you may attend as often or as little as you want on days that after school classes are in session. * Note all classes for ALC are free. The optional fee is for snack.     Students will explore new techniques and hone their skills in the 2D arts.     Themes in Anime-ALC (Anthony)

    Students will dive deep by watching, discussing and creating anime. They’ll draw connections between the films that they see and their own lives, and create works of art that allow them to share their stories with their peers.
