    Do you love reading? Have you always been curious about the process of making comics and graphic novels? This is the class for you! We need your help reviewing books that could be part of Minneapolis Public Schools’ ELA classes. Even more, you will be paid $25 for each book you read and review. That's free money just for sharing your thoughts! The books range from fiction to nonfiction, novel to graphic novel, and you'll get to decide which ones should be used in your classes. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to learn about the process of making comics and graphic novels while creating your own. All levels of artistic prowess are welcome. Just bring your creative brain and love of books. Be ready to learn new things and earn a little bit of cash in the process! This class is lead by Mr. Shane! This class is only open to Justice Page students.

    ALC Book Club with Mr. Pete

    Love reading and sharing with your peers? Students will have the chance to read, write and talk with friends during "Book Club with Mr. Pete." All students will have the option to read the same book as other students simultaneously, or a book of their choice. They will then write about elements of the book and have a chance to share ideas through discussion with other students. When concluding a book, students will create a short review describing why they would or would not recommend the book to another person. Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay.     ALC RAZ Kids Reading Ms. Burger (Grades 2-5)

    Hey kids! Are you ready for a little after school razzle-dazzle with Ms. Burger? Join RAZ Kids where you’ll dive into the world of reading with an engaging online platform that makes learning fun and interactive. Each class starts with a cool mindfulness exercise to help you relax, center, and prepare for focused learning. We will explore reading at your level and you'll get to share your favorite stories and characters with the group. It's a great way to improve your reading skills and have a blast at the same time. The combination of Raz Kids and mindfulness will create a place where all can thrive academically and emotionally, while having fun!   • ALC: GEMS & GISE Lego Robotics (Grade 3-5) Field Afterschool, Tuesdays & Thursdays

    Where creativity meets technology! In this innovative program, your child will design, build, and program their own Lego robots, learning the basics of engineering and coding. It’s a thrilling introduction to STEM that will spark curiosity and inspire future inventors. Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite your child to participate in Extended Day Programming at Field Elementary Schools. Programming this year will focus on GEMS and GISE Lego Robotics Stem Academy (specific topic below). Space is limited so register as soon as possible for priority consideration! Enroll today and watch them create the future! Bus **In order for your child to have bussing on the first day of programming please register by Dec 19. If you register after Dec. 19, bussing may not be available for your student right away.** This program will take place at Field Elementary School 4645 4th Ave S. We will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year at the same time as Field’s Community Education. Enrollment is for the entire year so please email me if your family chooses to stop attending so I can make necessary changes in our system. In the winter & spring spaces are available for more students to join us and information will come out at those times. Programming is open to Grades 3 – 5. Pick-up will be at Field Elementary School at 5:40PM at Door #19. Field School’s main office # 612-668-3640, if you have questions during the day. Fall/Winter 2024- Robotics - In this exciting robotics class students learn mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. In pairs, using LEGO building elements, motors, and sensors, students build different robot prototypes and program them with a computer to move, react, and make sounds. Students will utilize their prototypes and programming to solve design challenges using the LEGO WeDo 2.0, EV3 or the Lego Spike Prime Robotic Systems. District Robotics Exhibition on January 25 MPS GEMS-GISE-STEM Robotics Exhibition at Anishinabe Academy/Sullivan STEAM School. Spring 2025 - Robotics (theme TBD) - In these engaging and investigative classes students are immersed in the fundamentals of energy, electricity, and electronics. Students explore energy sources, examine energy basics (energy measured, converted, and transferred) and the future of energy including conservation and alternatives through an interactive problem based approach. Students conduct hands-on investigations into the properties of electricity – currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and static electricity. Students work and learn through exciting, project-based electronics experiments utilizing circuit boards and electronic components for circuit construction, testing, and troubleshooting.     Join Anime club and get a chance to practice your freestyle art and meet and spend time with anime lovers. Most importantly, you'll get a chance to explore anime and discuss various themes expressed through the visual medium. We'll be taking a look at some of the most popular animated films, but also at some less heard of series as well. No prior knowledge of anime or Japanese culture needed, just an interest in foreign culture and a willingness to listen and express your opinions.     Catch the Buzz! This course is an opportunity for students to put their own mark on the wildly popular Anthony Newspaper “The Buzz”! Students will practice writing, editing, formatting, printing and distributing their very own newspaper. Anyone with an interest in sharing their creativity with our school should join! Students in this course are also invited to participate in the Minneapolis Book Review program where students can get paid to read and review books!

    Art, Mosaic & Murals (Sanford)

    Be a part of making Sanford History. This group will work together with Artist-In-Residence Dani Bianchini, a Latina Minneapolis Based Community Artist, to bring student voice and student culture to the walls of Sanford! Student will learn the process of mosaic tile murals and work on designing a painting the mural to be displayed on the walls of the indoor recess room. This class is Spanish/English dual language. We are so excited to partner and work to renovate this indoor recess space for all students and staff of Sanford to use and enjoy! This class will end with a community celebration and mural unveiling.     This club is run by Mr. J (Sanford SEA) and is a group for guys who want to hang out, play games, have some open gym time, make snacks and have a safe fun space to chill. This group has enjoyed neighborhood walks to the store, playing basket and gaga ball outside when it's nice. They have fun!     Alongside Mr. Benson, students will learn all there is to know about guitar. From the simplest of chords to the greatest of songs, they will hone their guitar skills across 8 exciting nights.
