    Students seeking more opportunities to play band instruments in an ensemble can do so while getting an introduction to the exciting world of jazz!     ALC: GEMS & GISE Lego Robotics (Grade 3-5) Field Afterschool, Tuesdays & Thursdays

    Experience the GEMS-GISE-STEM Academy! Our students dive into a world of discovery through hands-on, minds-on learning. We use a project-based and problem-based approach that seamlessly integrates reading and math skills, making learning more dynamic and fun! GEMS-GISE-STEM Academy coaches guide students through high-interest, rigorous STEM experiences that make real-world connections and explore exciting career paths. The program sparks critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation through interactive projects. Students don't just learn; they gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of STEM! Ready to join the adventure? Students can enroll in our year-long after-school program, which includes two semester courses. Plus, the learning doesn't have to stop there—students can continue their journey in our six-week summer STEM Academies! Where creativity meets technology! In this innovative program, your child will design, build, and program their own Lego robots, learning the basics of engineering and coding. It’s a thrilling introduction to STEM that will spark curiosity and inspire future inventors. Classes taught by Field's very own Ms. Greger! Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite your child to participate in Extended Day Programming at Field Elementary Schools. Programming this year will focus on GEMS and GISE Lego Robotics Stem Academy (specific topics below). Space is limited so register as soon as possible for priority consideration! The class will culminate in participation in the 2026 FIRST LEGO League Challenge UNEARTHEDSM on January 17, 2026. Get ready to dig in! In the UNEARTHEDSM Challenge, students and their LEGO team will harness creativity, critical thinking, and technology to explore this season’s challenge. We will also look to the future, examining the importance of conservation and the potential of alternative energy sources through a hands-on, problem-based approach. Students will conduct investigations into key concepts like currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and static electricity. Students also explore the properties of conductors and insulators, and the principles of magnetism as they work on exciting, project-based experiments. Get ready to level up!     Catch the Buzz! This course is an opportunity for students to put their own mark on the wildly popular Anthony Newspaper “The Buzz”! Students will practice writing, editing, formatting, printing and distributing their very own newspaper. Anyone with an interest in sharing their creativity with our school should join!     Sanford is proud a Unified School! Join us on Thursdays and create with clay! We will use air dry clay, polymer clay, model magic and make our own. This club is open to all students of all abilities. This is an MPS Extended Learning ALC Class and paid for by district funding and a partnership with Special Olympics of Minnesota. Special Olympics Unified Schools is an education and sports based strategy powered by an engaged student community that increases athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. It is a strategy to activate youth, engage educators, and promote school communities of acceptance and inclusion where all young people are agents of change. The three components of Unified Schools include Inclusive Youth Leadership, Unified Sports, and Whole School Engagement. All three areas are crucial to shift the culture of a school towards inclusion. 1. Inclusive Youth Leadership: An opportunity for youth voices to be heard through engaging together with meaningful relationships. 2. Unified Sports: A combination of special education students and general education students that participate in inclusive sporting opportunities. 3. Whole School Engagement: Bullying prevention and inclusive promotion initiatives that reach entire school populations through engaging, inspiring and optimistic events.

  • Engineering the Ride (Grades 4-5)

    CLASS IS CURRENTLY FULL- STUDENTS WILL BE PALCED ON A WAITLIST AND WILL HAVE PRIORITY TO SPRING SESSION. PLEASE NOTE: Extended Learning classes need to be taught by a licensed teacher and they are offered free to our students. In order to pay our licensed teachers, this class is funded through the state of MN. The state requires evidence that we offered the class after school. In order to comply, we ask that each student and parent or guardian will sign and date a CLP. The CLP is an MDE (Minnesota Department of Education) required document for all students attending summer and after school programming. This form will be sent home the first class after school. In this class you will explore the mechanics of the standard road bike while riding through the urban parks and streets of Minneapolis. If your child's bike breaks down or will need assistance back to Northrop, you are giving permission for Krystal to transport your child back to Northrop by car. Your child's after school teacher will send this form home with your child the first week of class. This class begins on October 6th and ends on January 23rd (12 weeks). The deadline for after school transportation requests to start the first day is September 19th.
