Taylor Swift’s lyrics reveal a gift for documenting and processing her experiences; and where did those experiences go first? Her journal! By listening to her songs and playing with her lyrics, we can create excitement around the practice of journaling for fun, self-care, and creative expression. When it’s time to put pen to paper, we’ll look to the diary entries of a superfan in the novel Worldwide Crush – how is she using her journal? What techniques is she using to express herself authentically? Students will experiment with the different styles of journaling to see which one works best for them; documentary, stream of consciousness, manifesting, acrostic poems and more. Journals will be provided, but students can also bring their own.

To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay or select the no-cost option. We have always offered partial and full scholarships upon request. If you choose to pay above the class cost, you are helping provide opportunities for children in your community that would otherwise be unable to afford them. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making these requests. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining.
