Do you have original wood windows in a home built prior to 1950 in need of some TLC? Join the skilled team at Hayes Window Restoration for a hands-on workshop all about wood window repair. The team will explain common double-hung window issues and demonstrate basic repairs you can do yourself, like sash cord repair, tune-up, glass repair, and glazing. Students will have time at the end to try their hand at the skills they’ve just learned. You are invited to bring a window sash from home. We'll also have plenty of practice sash for participants to use. An absolute don't-miss for anyone who cares about old house character and wants to keep, rather than replace, their original windows--this class is brought to you by Hayes Window Restoration.

Joe dove into the revival trade of window restoration after deciding that window replacement would do more harm than good for his 1916 home in south Minneapolis. From 2009 to 2016, he spent his summers (he was a Montessori teacher at the time) restoring his house with original character as a focal point. Though the original wood windows were in poor shape, it was clear that with improvements such as new sash cords, weatherstripping, glazing putty, updated storm windows, these windows could stay in service for decades to come while maintaining the home's original character. Leaving his career in teaching in 2017, Joe founded Hayes Window Restoration in order to help people repair and restore their original windows rather than replace them. Today, Joe operates a thriving, award-winning business with craftspeople who share his passion for old house character and the time it takes to do things the "right" way--with traditional materials and techniques that match and honor the craftsmanship of those who came before us. Joe and his team now teach classes regularly in addition to restoring thousands of windows each year.
