Band weaving techniques have been practiced for centuries across cultures to create straps, trims, belts, and decorative bands. In this class, we’ll explore three techniques: inkle, card, and heddle weaving.
Through guided instruction, you’ll learn to warp and weave on a narrow-band loom or backstrap setup, understand how pattern is created through each technique, and practice finishing techniques. As we weave, we’ll also explore the cultural and historical context of band weaving traditions practiced throughout the world.
This class uses some hand strength (tensioning yarns) and is adaptable to varying levels of dexterity. All experience and skill levels are welcome.
