The rapid and largely unrestrained development of AI raises serious concerns around privacy and data protection, its environmental cost, and the concentration of power among major tech companies. At the same time, the deployment of AI by governments and organizations in high-impact contexts—including public services, law enforcement, border control, and weapons systems—carries profound implications for human rights and international law. Human rights violations and legal gaps related to lethal autonomous weapons already exist today, with far-reaching consequences for the future. Join this discussion to explore how we can preserve human agency, uphold democratic values and the rule of law, and ensure AI advances, rather than undermines, human rights.
Foreign Policy Discussions presentations are offered through the nationwide Great Decisions program to learn more about vital foreign policy issues facing our country. The sessions feature lectures and lively discussions with local college professors and other guest speakers.
This program is co-sponsored with the Westminster Magnet program.
