    Come join Siobhan in this student recommended class. Each week students will be able to discover new books in the library. Students will read, talk, and discuss books at their level. Unfortunately students cannot check books out after school but stop by the media center the next day and check out with Ms. Laura. This class will learn all about comics including storytelling, drawing, sequencing, dialogue, design and publishing. Don't forget to bring your creativity! Class is 8 weeks PLEASE NOTE: Extended Learning classes need to be taught by a licensed teacher and they are offered free to our students. In order to pay our licensed teachers, this class is funded through the state of MN. The state requires evidence that we offered the class after school. In order to comply, we ask that each student and parent or guardian will sign and date a CLP. The CLP is an MDE (Minnesota Department of Education) required document for all students attending summer and after school programming. This form will be sent home the first class after school. This form is ONLY in regards to after school for the 2025- 26 year.     In the Scouting program kids will have fun while learning about nature, first aid, what to do in an emergency, fun science activities, group games, and more.   • Engineering the Ride (Grades 4-5)

    CLASS IS CURRENTLY FULL- STUDENTS WILL BE PALCED ON A WAITLIST AND WILL HAVE PRIORITY TO SPRING SESSION. Don't have a bike, that's okay! When registering please note you do not have a bike and will need one. In this class you will explore the mechanics of the standard road bike while riding through the urban parks and streets of Minneapolis. Students will have an opportunity to read and learn from informational texts. This class is mostly outdoors, plan accordingly. **MUST wear tennis shoes and helmet while riding. Please bring a water bottle, snack provided. If your child's bike breaks down or will need assistance back to Northrop, you are giving permission for Krystal to transport your child back to Northrop by car. If you do not own a bike/ helmet let us know at time of registration. By registering, you are giving your child permission to leave school grounds by bike. Please answer all questions at sign out.     Kendama is a growing professional sport in the world with Minneapolis being a hub for some of the best players in the world.     In this class you will learn how to tie pre cut yarn onto a mesh canvas with a latch hooking tool. Each class you will be continuing to work on your own project to take home at the end.   • Musical Theater (Grades 1-5)

    Come join your friends in this fantastic theater class! Our teachers are highly trained actors, percussionists, guitarists, pianists, singers and dancers that joined forces to create a program that enhances students’ confidence and allows them to embrace their love for the arts. Reading skills are used during class participation so we ask students are in at least first grade. We work on our dance, singing and acting technique through a series of different exercises and games. There will be a short performance on the last class (Wednesday December 17th) at 5 PM in the gym.   • Percussion Playground (Grades 2-5)

Students will join team sports if they need to stay past 5 PM Percussion Playground open to grades 2-5 Join our group for an 8-week percussion exploration designed for aspiring drummers! Beginner students learn about playing rhythm using foundational drumming techniques on a diverse array of instruments, from unconventional buckets and tubs to more traditional auxiliary percussion instruments!     Learn how to play the game of chess from Twin Cities Chess Club instructors who have years of teaching experience.
