Who's ready to roll?!? If you enjoy riding a bike, join Seward Bike Sharks after-school bike class. Our goal is to build confident youth riders, build on skill-development, and have fun on the bike.
We will be riding mostly on-site (Matthews Park field and paved park trails). For riders that are ready to go further we will access nearby paved trails, including West River Parkway and the Midtown Greenway, using bike boulevard streets to safely access.
Biking is an outdoor sport, we will embrace all weather conditions for outside riding. Please plan to be prepared with appropriate gear/clothes to ride in all weather conditions, including cooler weather and light spring showers. If severe weather impacts the class, we will move to an indoor space.
This is a pilot class in partnership with National Center for Youth Development, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit in Minneapolis empowering youth to build a community–where they can find identity and purpose–on and off the bike.
Youth must meet the minimum bike handling skills to participate:
-Youth does not use training wheels
-Youth can use front hand brakes
-Youth can control a bike independently on paved trails and urban streets
-Youth can stop/start comfortably and safely
-Youth has basic urban riding comfort
-Youth can maintain a moderate physical activity
Required equipment for youth participation: each participant must have a bike, helmet, and water bottle holder + water bottle and wear close-toed shoes (no crocs) to safely participate. Per request, a youth may borrow a helmet and/or bike for the session as needed.
